Box Scraper Let's talk Box Blades

I've tentatively made up my mind and am looking at box blades (not written in stone). A thousand dollars sounds better than 3K right now, so a special arena tool isn't on the list (for now).

I have a short list of manufacturers: Land Pride, Befco, Bush Hog, United, Taylor Way, Woods, Frontier (Deere), King Cutter, Diamond, Gannon (made by Woods). Of course there are other brands, small companies that market their own product..
I contacted this place Box Blades at Equipmentland.com The 6 footer weighs about a hundred pounds more than similar products. I was quoted about $1100.00 total (shipped) I also called the local tractor dealer and got a quote for the same $1100.00 on a Land Pride medium duty 72", but Land Pride makes several models and the salesman wasn't sure which one (surprise..they wanted me to come down and look) Land Pride Box Scrapers
I'm still in the looky look phase, not sure what I'm going to do yet..I'll need something soon.


Soo... what do you have and what do you like/not like about it?

I have a 65" Woods and it is SOLID !!! I can't say anything bad about it. It is the most frequently used 3pt. attachment that I have. There are a ton of other post about box blades (with detailed discussion) in which I'm sure someone will direct you too but thought I'd quickly comment about mine.

Local Deere dealer quoted me $800 for Frontier 2072. I can't recall who makes these for Frontier...it was either Workhorse or Woods. Like you still considering options.

I know it's not on your list, but don't buy a Howse box blade unless they changed how the teeth are pinned in place. The box itself is nice but the teeth are sort of wedged in place by a pin and "r" clip. They tend to work themselves loose and fall out. Most boxes have a hole you stick a pin through and then clip it, which is the way it should be.
By the way, the box blade is probably my favorite implement - you'll love it.

I have a 72" Bush Hog box blade. Its very well made and has not given me any trouble in the three years i have been using it.

I don't want to deter you from your box blade but if your arena is already built wouldn't a landscape rake work better? I can understand needing the BB if your trying to level a place but its harder to get a nice groomed surface for horses with a BB than a rake. I have a couple horses and use the rake in my round pen.

I also have a 60" Bush Hog that I bought two months ago. I've used it to loosen and level up around the house so I could plant grass. I have very little experience but it seems to dig nicely. I can tell you that it will find your buried electrical ground wire if you use it next to the house. I also borrowed a landscape rake with wheels and I had a hard time giving it back.

Armstron Ag, my 6ft of solid steel (740#). Got it when I bought my tractor through the Deere dealership. Not sure of pricing. It's rated for a 60HP tractor and mine is a bit less but haven't had any problems using it.

I also have the Woods 65" that BEAVIS mentioned above. My Ford 1715 will dig itself into a hole before it will bend anything on the blade. I built a house last year and have used this blade for probably pushing a hundred hours without a hitch other that I lost one scarifier "end" in a field on a rock or something and had to replace it - no big deal. The Woods unit seemed very beefy compared to others that I looked at, but it was also more expensive as I recall. Good Luck.

Land Pride, Bush Hog, Woods, Frontier (Deere).....don't think you could go wrong with any of those. I have a Land Pride and I know you won't be tearing their stuff up! The over build their stuff!

I have a yellow 5' King Kutter. I bought it used 3 or more years ago, and I can't say anything bad about it. My tractor is pretty small (18 hp), though. Your Mileage May Vary.
