Length of Trailer Needed for Kubota L4740 + FEL + Backhoe

Hi there -

What length trailer is recommended / required for a Kubota L4740 with a Front End Loader and Backhoe?

I have a 16' + 2' dovetail trailer nearby that's for sale but according to my measurements it may be a bit short.

Anyone have any advice?

Go ask the seller to allow you to hook up trailer, load your tractor and see how it pulls. Assume it is a goose neck trailer so you can put your bucket above the gooseneck. I do that all the time.

I would measure it and your longest implement together then add 2 to 3 feet.

Can't say the correct length for sure, but I know that is WAAAAAAY short. I have a similar tractor with only a FEL and a BB on the 3pt and it is way too long for my 16' trailer (but it works OK for the short infrequent trips I make - it is rated 10k which is important...). 2' more would help a bit, but would still not be enough to make it really comfortable. 20' would seem about right for mine as a decent minimum. My guess is that you are looking at 24', minimum if you want to do it right. I would also bet that a 10k trailer would be pushing it, especially with the larger tare weight of a longer trailer and your backhoe. You might need to go to 12k or 14k to be fully legal. It gets complicated quickly...

Great photo. Length is a factor but axle placement can be a make or break factor as well. They have to be long enough so you can park the load so you have the proper tongue weight for safe handling.

And BTW , the front of the trailer is to the RIGHT in that photo. It is loaded on in reverse as that is the only way it fits, and more importantly, balances the tongue weight.

I just purchased a 22' with a equipment dove, this allows me to move the tractor to the best spot for my 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton trucks. My tractor would just fit on my 18' with the backblade and loader bucket. CJ

Have a L3130 with backhoe and a 20 foot gives a little of room to balance things and not have the hoe hanging over the tail end and be able to carry an extra bucket or box blade if needed.
