Mahindra 2538
Hey guys, running my Mahindra 2538 HST pretty hard today and all of a sudden I heard a small pop and noticed hydraulic oil pouring out. I was able to drive it back to the garage after adding some fluid, but still leaks pretty bad. It appears that the leak is coming from the flare on the pipe that goes from the pump into the solenoid valve block/housing. I took off the pipe and the union on the block. Everything looked normal, but I replaced the o-ring on the union that goes into the block to try and rule it out. Put it all back together and it is still leaking terribly. Right through the nut on the flare. The pipe was never hit with anything so it’s really odd to me that it starts leaking out of no where. Looking for advice on what to check before throwing parts at it. I think a new tube and union will run me 150$, but not sure if that’s really the issue or not. Attached pic of the part in question (circled in green)

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Perhaps some small defect from manufacturing that finally broke through? Hard to say...

Did the flared end crack? I have seen this happen from vibration fatigue.

yeah, sounds like you have a crack. Might want replace tube union and nut.
I've never had a flared end split that I remember, but recently had one that the nut split lengthwise. You could only see the split when it was nearly fully torqued.
From the picture, it looks like he could replace it with a standard hose and a right angle fitting. Is that possible?

Interesting. I didn’t notice anything, but didn’t inspect it super clearly. Replacing with hose would be nice. Not sure how to go about that though. Could I bring it to a hydraulic store you think?

It may be just a matter of matching the end connections. I think you would need a 90 because hose doesn't bend sharply. But that may even be an advantage be cause it allows more options on thread types.
As I look at the picture you posted, is that a hose at the bottom? (arrows) If so, it looks like it has the 90 you would be looking for as well.

It’s a metal line also. Looking like it’s all metal lines underneath. I just took the leaking one back off. I really do not see a crack at all on the Union or the flare. If I’m being hyper critical of it it looks like the flare portion may be verrry slightly deformed.

Do you have any way to plug one end of that tube and then pressurize the tube with air or oil to see if it leaks. A pin hole or hair line crack should show up.
