Hi everyone

Purchased a second hand tractor just before christmas great tractor working brilliantly, not used for a couple of weeks as fire restrictions here in WA exempt hot engine use at the moment. My issue is i noticed a puddle of oil under the front end og the front axle coming from i think its the pulley wheel for the fan belt. No issues or leaks for a week of no use then it starts leaking with this hot weather...ideas?

You need to determine if its oil, hydraulic fluid or diesel that is leaking (diesel is pretty obvious by the smell). Fluids chase around the seams so it may not be leaking where you think it is.

Once you find the source, check your bolts and hydraulic for tightness, maybe one has worked it's way loose, a line has a split or hole, or the filter has loosened off. Or, commonly, something was spilled when filling.

If you are down for temperatures anyway, and have the time; seems like a good time for a servicing and fluid swap anyway (guessing your hours are near time?).

That will tell you how much fluid you are losing, by comparing what you drain to what it should be/or what you put in. This will present you with a decision if the leak is substantial: tear down and fix a gasket now or can you live with the leak until after harvest to tear it down?

Keep in mind, some machines are temperamental and just leak small amounts of fluids sometimes.

It would be hard to guess what your leak is, as there is no mention if you have front hydraulics or not. Things always seem to leak off in that location for many reasons.

Sounds like the front crankshaft seal is leaking. Not a difficult fix but you will have to remove the radiator, fan and pulley and the timing cover.... an easily accomplished Saturday project.

Out of curiosity, what model tractor do you have?

Thanks for reply, its a D2040 model with front end bucket/loader 26hp with just over a 1000 hrs on clock runs great does what i want it to do just weird its started showing a leak under the front axle seeing i haven't used it for a few weeks. I was thinking with this heat here at the minute its getting hot while sitting in the sun?

Thanks for detailed reply, yes its oil looks to be from the back of pulley wheel for belt for fan. Just done a good wipe down will look later to see if it shows anything new. Hydraulics look ok checked all unions and joints nothing showing from them.
