Leak at stick shift

My Kubota l245dt has sat idol for about 2 months today when I start to use it I noticed an oil leak where the stick shift goes into the transmission. Has the seal just dried out or is there a larger problem I should be worried about?

If the tractor has a cracked rubber boot on the shifter and has sat out in the rain, you could have water in the transmission, causing the fluid level to rise.

Rules out my theory. Does it leak before it is warmed up or after? If it leaks after it is warmed up then maybe there is a vent that is stopped up, venting at the next path of least resistance.

still worth checking the oil level anyway. I'm not familiar with that machine.. but some machines have other sumps that can leak into each other.. it's a free / easy check anyway..

Now I am confused! washed of the transmission and cab so I could tear down the joint if needed. checked the oil level in the transmission, it was fine. I needed to do some work with the tractor and ran it hard for about 3 hours and not a drop leaked go figure. Damm I almost had my wife convinced that I needed to trade up.

I have a Kubota L2350 it will do the same thing leak at the shifter boot, replaced boot same problem. Turned out to be the little pigtail rubber vent on the trans. Down here Mud Dabber's will fill any openings with mud for a nest. When I would run tractor pressure would build as it got warm and vent at ..... the shifter lever, and not a little oil but a LOT . Has happened twice now, just squeeze pigtail to breakup mud, problem solved.

Could be a similar problem when you washed it you cleaned out the vent?

When the 245 sits for a period of time those seals will dry up and may start to leak a small amount You should check the vent it is in the three point cover, this could be the problem, but in a tractor that age and if those seals haven't been replaced it is more that likely just the fact that they need to be replaced with new ones. Those seals will run a little less than 9 dollars and I do keep them in stock. Contact at parts@parsonstractor.com

Thank you all for the help I think I will take a wait and see approach, why do it now when I can change the seal in January when it is minus 40?
