We need every bit of pasture with grass that we have. 30 acres with 25 of it in hickory and oak trees means a lot of leaves to get on the 5 acres of grass and kill it..........Yes, goats love oak and hickory this time of year for the falling leaves and put on lots of fat eating the nuts; but they also clear off the floor of the woods and being on a mountain means that erosion is gonna happen.......So.......clean off all the leaves from the pasture and minimize how much they get into the forest floor.........A fine balance........
Anyway, over the years have blown, drug blankets/tarps full of leaves, let it be and reseed the pastures, mowed and this year is the best.........My land is anywhere from 10 to 25 degree slopes.....Needless to say running a tractor to run an implement is definately seat puckering time........This year I got a new to me
B7610 with a Land Pride grooming mower, 60 inch........WOW fantastic. The
B7610 is as stable as it gets on the slopes, turn arounds, and use of 4WD when needed...........the Land Pride grooming mower is a super mulcher.
I basically go up and down in forward and reverse keeping the "blowing" action of the mower in one direction......Huge amounts of leaves and no windrows or clumping.....Fantastic......In the past this was a full time every day job for a week to 10 days.....Yesterday and today and ALL is finished and fantastic......LOLOL now if we can get all of the leaves off the trees I can call it a job well done..............God bless......Dennis
