I don't see many posts on the LB1914, so I thought to provoke a little discussion about it.
I have just finished a 200 hr maintenance on my LB1914. As I get to know the tractor better, I find a number of discrepancies with the Owner's Manual.
1. The manual says there is an oil level check plug on the left side of the tractor. There appear to be TWO oil level check plugs in fact, one on the forward side of the axle on the right, and another on the front of the assembly to which the left wheel is bolted. Why two?
2. The illustration on p 50 indicates the position of two fill plugs on top of the axle on each side. There is only ONE, on the LEFT, and careful examination of the photo (and of the tractor) reveals that there is nothing where the position of the supposed right side plug is indicated. Please do not try to top up the oil from the RIGHT fill orifice.
3. In the same photo, only one of the 3 drain plugs is indicated; the other two are underneath the assembly to which the front wheels are bolted.
4. Location of grease Points (zerks) is sketchy. It is particularly easy to miss one on the underside of the transmission housing, between the clutch and brake pivots and to the right of the front drive shaft; it is seen at the top left of the first photo on p 46. There is another on the the power steering ball joint, and one on the right side of the tie rod only. None of these are mentioned in the manual.
ALL moving parts on any tractor and attachments should be checked for a grease point (DUH!), so no one overlooks some like I did initially. Result: two rusted, seized pins, blocked zerk
5.On p 47 one is instructed to "adjust the feedback linkage". What is that, and how is it adjusted??? I have found no explanation.
6. One is instructed to check the Steering Box oil. Is there one? If so, how does one get at it?
I may have missed one or more zerks: I have no way of knowing. If you know of another hidden zerk not shown in the manual, please post
You need a Graham Portable Inspection Pit (Pat. Pending; see photo) to find whatever IS there! Comes with free red flag (illustrated) to attach to steering wheel to indicate tractor should not be operated (lest we forget).
Pit available by email delivery, $99.99, money orders only!
