Lawn/Garden Tractor Turning Radius

Can anyone give me an idea regarding what I wouldn't be able to easily accomplish with a tractor that has a 28" turning radius? I've been using a Deere L120 and have no idea what it's radius is but it seems to be able to get around most trees in beds in my FIL's yard. The CC I'm considering has a 28" radius, just wondering if that will be a problem.

What kind of problem do you anticipate with a 28" radius? Is that the radius left in a circle of un-mowed grass? or is that the radius of the inside tire tread when turning a circle?

I don't know where the rurning radius is measured from exactly. But since there are competing models with 14" turning radius I'm wondering if the 28" has any limitations that I should consider more closely before making a purchase.

I think the L series Deere's have a 14" radius. However... like mentioned.. I'm not sure everyone rates them the same way. So got by the inside tire, the uncut radius, etc.

It all depends on whether your lawn has a lot of trees, shrubs, flower beds or other obstacles to maneuver around.... Do you need to maneuver a lot or not?

My lawn is pretty wide open so I don't think the radius will matter too much at all. The overall ability of the machine is what I'm looking for as it will be used for more than just cutting.

The yard is 2 acres of former pastureland, so there aren't many trees. Any landscape trees and beds will be spaced so that the tractor can easily handle the turns around them.

I can tell you that I have a CC-2042 and love it. Shaft drive, quiet smooth mower......I don't get to use it much because the wife really enjoys it. It has a real good turning radius and I do have to mow around trees, etc.

it's like a Cadillac compared to our other Yard-man POS.

I had a JD LT110, which had a fairly tight turning radius. However, it would not cut level when I was making a sharp turn. I even called Deere to ask about why it was not cutting evenly, and the response was, "are you making sharp turns as you are cutting?" So, I guess that they feel like that is normal. So, even if it has a tight turning radius, I would try it out to see if it will cut level as it is turning.

I switched to a Zero Turn Mower, and it cuts evenly, regardless of what I am doing. And does it faster. However, of course, it is limited in terms of what else I can do with it.

Good luck. Cug Cadet was one of the brands that I was looking at, and the feedback that I got on that make was good overall.

On most garden tractors, you need to slow a little on very sharp turns or you get a poor cut. I don't really understand why that is. I haven't noticed it especially on mine except when going through deep leaves and mulching, then on a turn, it will leave a row down the middle of the two blades if I don't go slowly.
