Hi all,

Because of the everlasting rain that keeps coming down, all pastures are drowning in water. Our horses too, but they need to eat. The grass was ready for haying but due too the bad weather that will not stop for the upcoming days/weeks we decided to do buy a mower, a little earlier then scheduled. We do not want to loose the grass and it will start to rot at the bottom side of the stem.

My latest score, a Vicon Disc Mower. It's a pretty old one, but it still runs fine. Just need to buy new knives to o change them.

Now we cut the grass when it is dry for a few hours (just before another rain storm is coming over) in small strokes and then feed the grass. So it is a win/win, we can feed the horses, we do not use up our hay stack and the pasture has a change to recover.

Sounds like a workable strategy. We have first cutting in the barn now thank goodness.

Not a bad looking mower! I sure can't wait to step up to a disc mower. If you don't mind me asking, how much did ya pay? And how wide of a cut?

I paid 800 for it, which is a little on the high side. But on the other hand, I am using every day now. So the "right" price should have been around 500-600. I only have to change the driving belts. And the knives of course but I won't take that as a real expense but rather as a maintenance cost because every mower needs knives. I would have more loss if I had not bought the mower.

It's a CM160, so the cut should be around 1m60. Did not measured it yet.

For the life of me, I can't remember a place that had everlasting rain in 2014 and can't find BE in a list of abbreviated place names. Where is BE?
