Here's a back view.

It's the model FS500 (350# capacity). So far it has spread 3,000# of pelletized lime & 3 fertilizer applications (150# each). Can't imagine doing all that by hand.

How much did the spreader set you back? I need to get a new one and sitting on the tractor up a hill sure beats pushing.

Hazmat,We have the same spreader that I use behind our BX,PERFECT size for the sub-compacts,oops,did'nt mean to imply that your NH was a "sub" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Took a while to get the hang of the vane settings and the right r.p.m. to spread fert. "just right" /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

We put on about a ton of fert. a year, would be lost without ours /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hazmat,

I knew you had turfs, but I don't think I've ever seen the 18 with them on--really looks different.

I like the spreader--may have to price one this weekend.

Most have the Industrials. I'm lucky, I've got both! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Stay tuned for a photo essay on changing them over (maybe tonight in Owning & Operating).

Here is a question from a non-farm person.

Can you detach the spreader, set it on the ground and fill it with the FEL??? I guess the other alternative is to heft the 50# bags of fertilizer to the rim, but that would get old after a while.

Good question! I once filled my spreader then removed it onto a pallet, but it was pretty precarious. Since I have extendable lower arms, it wasn't too hard to hook back up.

Yeah--I remember seeing your tractor with the industrials when you posted the pics of field mowing in ME. That's what made me think of the difference in appearance.

Look forward to your tire changing pics. Your mention of the change over reminded me of when I still lived at home and my dad was still alive. It was a tradition on Thanksgiving weekend to put the snow tires on the car, change the oil in the JD 112, put the chains on and take off the mower/install the snowblower. Later--when snow tires (for the most part) became a thing of the past, we still did the work on the mower. Great times.
