Hello! new member here

TLDR: I am looking to buy a new cutter and need to decide between the Land Pride RCR1872 vs RCF2772.

I have been using a b2710 with a BH 60" finishing mower to maintain my property for the bast 20 years or so. I have around 100 acres of land both pasture and wooded. I have to keep forest roads kept, and also mow overgrown pastures and pastures with saplings, mainly white oak and yellow pine (the squirrels here do a fantastic job of replanting the forest every year). I have been pushing this tractor and finishing mower to the absolute limits. many times it takes me several days to cut a pasture due to grass length and brush volume. In order to get a single pass mowing efficiency, I have to drive my tractor backwards to cut. so as you can imagine, maintaining property is quote tedious. For larger tasks like round bale hay moving, I use a 1980 David Brown 995 with hay spear. I do not have a mower for this tractor. Mother nature is ever creeping and the constant impending suffocation from overgrowth makes me lose sleep at night.

I am upgrading my tractor setup from my two tractors to a Kubota M7060 to assist me in efficient management of all of my farm tasks. I will have to cut back many overgrown pastures as well as maintain them with at least two cuts a year. During the summertime the bahia exponentially grows during the summer months and grows a thick carpet like consistency that cannot be maintained with my current set up.

I am looking to get a new rotary cutter with my tractor purchase. The dealer has two options landpride RCR1872 or RCF 2772. I have read through all of the specs for both (many times). having never used a rotary cutter of that size I have no experience in how much each machine will be able to handle, since I have basically been using an overpowered lawn mower to do agricultural tasks.

I am looking for a single pass pasture cutting experience at 6' widths at a time, where I don't have to drive over the same spot two or three times, and the mower will not get bogged down in the thick bahia carpet that grows in the summertime. Also to get after parts of a clearcut pine forest that has been growing back for 2-3 years. I have patches of saplings of all types that are 1-3" in diameter, as well as privet, briars, ironweed, dogfennel, kudzu, sweetbay, etc.. (basically all the native forest plants of Alabama)

Can anyone provide any input on whether I will be able to handle my tasks with the $2800 RCR 1872 or if I need the upgraded RCF2772 at $4700. Is the medium duty cutter worth the extra money. Does that extra money convert to productivity and efficiency in cutting in my current situation? I am inclined to think I need the medium duty cutter; however, I believe with this new increased tractor capability and efficiency I will reach a point in which my entire property is generally maintained, and the grass and growth will not be so thick and hard to deal with, thus negating the need for a medium duty machine.

Any information or input on this would be most helpful.

Thanks!

A 7 foot Del Morino or Maschio Flail Crop Shredder with hammer knives
is what you need for this work.

Its more money but the flail crop shredder will outlast the M7060.

Go with the medium duty cutter. I went from a Bush Hog SQ172 light duty to a Land Pride RCF2072 medium duty behind my NH WM75. It cuts much nicer and has less vibration.

Thanks for the reply. Do you find the 11" deck height to accommodate a larger amount of material while you cut? and also do you get a lot of build up in the cutting chamber since the supports are on the inside, instead of on top like in the 1872?

My land pride 2772 has been through hell and back. It has cut many trees up to 3" diameter, one at a time of course. It has mowed many acres of old pasture. It has not required anything but regular maintenance. Would highly recommend.

Wow... you're maintaining alot of land! You also mention cutting numerous passes to get decent cut quality. A rotary cutter makes sense to handle the saplings and high grass. I would consider a 2 spindle rotary: a BH 2107 for example.

I designed mowers at JD for years. The weak link of a single spindle is that one half of the mower is all forward sweep (depending on blade rotation). The tractor mashes the tall grass forward then the mower comes directly behind. The 'back sweep' half cuts well; the forward sweep is going the same direction as the bent grass and is not lifted. Days later it stands back up. It bothers me so much I built my own 2 spindle. Would NEVER go back to single spindle.

Most 2-spindle cutters counter-rotate and back sweep both tire tracks for better cut quality. Your 60hp pto would rock it too! Check out what they can do:

Thanks for the reply! That is great information, I didn't even consider this. My only concern is maneuverability, I had my mind set on 72" because its not much wider than the tractor, and I can maneuver around the property better without the wider birth at the back. I will look at what is available in my area for the double spindle rotary.

I appreciate your reply. I couldn't find many testimonials for the 2772, so your input helps me get the information i need to make a decision. Thanks!

There really isn't a single attachment that does it all as far as taking care of the farm. A rotary cutter is about as good as it gets. My arsenal of equipment includeds 2 sickle bar mowers, a finish mower, the 2772 rotary cutter, and a rhino ts 10 batwing. They all have their purpose. The ts10 really cuts down on mowing time and does a great one pass full 10 foot cut.

Mine has the solid rear instead of chains. I don't notice any buildup. It cuts everything I need, which includes Bahai grass. If there is something larger than 2" it needs a chainsaw. Hitting it with a rotary cutter would be tough on any equipment.
