Hello and once again thank-you for all your input and help...

I bought a Kubota M5100HST... 44hp PTO

I have 20 acres to work and decided on the Land Pride 20RTR72 Tiller c/w slip clutch.

After 20 hours of use we noticed the metal splitting on both sides of the plate to the top link, not sure when the "fatigue" started; as the location is hidden by the drive shaft cover plate.

The dealer service manager said that this happens when you turn with the tiller lowered/operating...I did not do that.

What puzzles me mostly, is that the top-link's only function is to level out the unit.

Thinking about this as I type...it is a reverse rotation...could there be SO much force that the tines could be "pulling" the tiller apart?

I would appreciate some of your expert knowledge before I have to deal with Land Pride rep.

AND THANK YOU AGAIN FOR AN EXCELLENT WEB FORUM...I may lurk most of the time...but there are some really knowledgeable/sharing people on here.

Genuinely,

Richard Bittner

Looks like just too thin of stock for what its supposed do. But, and I'm not trying to be cute here, have you loaned it out to anyone? It is amazing the abuse that a borrower can inflict on equipment that isn't theirs and won't have to be repaired by them. With the counter roating tines the tiller might have got "hooked" under bedrock or a large root and then with the tractor moving foward it caused that crease to form. Your tiller would be sorta acting like a plow in that case. As the tractor pulls foward and the tiller digs something has to give. I think Land Pride should cover it. That should not happen. Just my opinion. Good luck with it.

PS. This one reason I've stuck with the standard rotation tillers. I just feel they "climb" up and over things better. Even with my big Kuhn 80" tiller I've had it hit a big head sized rock and it jumps up over it and away we go. Please keep us informed as to what happens and what repairs Land Pride decides on.

Thank-you for the reply...

Only I have used the tiller and the Kubota stalls out if I catch a stone bigger than a loaf of bread before the clutch slips.

I must admit there have been a lot of stones in the second field, but also everything was sub-soiled to 26" at 36" centres.

The thinness of the metal was the first thing that my father mentioned. I was thinking of going with some chains

I doubt that's caused by turning with the tiller lowered. Your top link can swivel side to side so there would be no resistance to twisting on that bracket.

Yes, I agree. Everything is done by the lower links. I would expect twisting lower down.

I had the top link in the top hole of the tractor mount, I see that is where they have it in the Land Pride video, although they do not suggest a position on the tractor side of the top link.

Wondering if I should have gone with the RTR2570, I choose the RTR2072 for the extra 2" to cover my tracks. I must admit that I was REALLY impressed with the post tilled soil.

I bought a woods 5ft tiller the toplink brackets were braced by a tab on the cat gearbox.Well the tab on the gearbox broke shortly after buying it and I called the dealer I got it from.He informed me that this was common and woods had actually adressed the problem and redesigned the brackets to bolt to tiller frame instead of the tab on the gearbox. My question was why didn't I get this design to begin with i was told my tiller was a left over from dealer stock..............go figure.I would call land pride directly

I'd try to have it warrantied but if you can't then drill out where the crack starts to keep it from getting worse and weld a doubler plate to the edge like a backhoe or excavator bucket.

Re: Land Pride 20RTR72 Tiller "metal fatigue" after 20 hours....PROBLEM IDENTIFIED!!

Hello again and thank-you for the input.

The dealer Ross Doble Inc. of Sunderland, Ontario, Canada DID NOT assemble the tiller brackets correctly!!! [see photos below]

So, everything was NOT squared up, but rather pulling in at the top.

After I got the brush off this afternoon from the service manager ["Monday's are really busy for us"], I spoke with Larry Doble [he sold me the tiller and Kubota M5100HST c/w loader in exchange for almost $40,000 of my hard earned dollars].

And it came out that they do the final assembly, so now I know that it is NOT an issue with Land Pride... rather the dealer!

I told him that I want a new unit.

Then I get this email from the service manager...16.07.12 1353h [no he is NOT shouting, he always types in UPPERCASE]

RICHARD I DID GO ON THE LANDPRIDE WEB SITE AND LOOKED AT THE SET UP INSTRUCTIONS THIS WOULD CONFIRM YOU ARE CORRECT.I WENT OUT FRONT AND LOOKED AT THE ONE WE HAVE IN OUR FRONT ROW AND IT IS ASSEMBLED THE SAME AS YOURS .WHEN I TALKED TO MY TECHS THEY ALL CONFIRM THIS IS THE WAY WE HAVE PUT THEM TOGETHER FOR YEARS,WITH NO COMEBACKS.I DON'T BELIEVE THIS YOUR PROBLEM,BUT I WILL DO WHATEVER I CAN TO HELP YOU OUT AS I BELIEVE I HAVE ALREADY DEMONSTRATED.SINCE THIS OUR BUSIEST TIME OF THE YEAR FOR THE SERVICE DEPT.I HAVE LEFT THIS MATTER IN LARRYS HANDS AND HOPE WE CAN COME TO A SPEEDY,MUTUAL RESOLUTION.THANKS JODY HOWE

I replied that 2 wrongs do not make a right.

I also recall that when I dropped into the dealership for some EP00 grease for the Land Pride RTR2072 chaincase, they had no idea what it was and suggested that I use synthetic engine oil.

Somebody also said that they only started handling Land Pride recently, yet "WHEN I TALKED TO MY TECHS THEY ALL CONFIRM THIS IS THE WAY WE HAVE PUT THEM TOGETHER FOR YEARS"

So, here I sit almost 2 weeks without a tiller waiting to plant my NO. 1 SORGHUM SUDAN seed...

Hey, at least I have had lots of time to pick stones!!

I will keep you all posted on the out come and THANK YOU AGAIN for the input...this is a GREAT FORUM!!

Genuinely,

I would doubt the cracks are from the installation, unless there was some stress when tightening down the bolts at that time. Regardless, I think new plates on top would suffice as a repair...

The farmers I've known would have been back in operation within an hour or two, with a welded and reinforced plate. Then let the dealer and mfg. sort it out.
