"I" would probably try to buy adjoining property, just my nature, lol! I think along the lines that they aren't making any more land, so it must be worth buying!
Daddy's place 900 miles away will probably be coming up for sale, and since I technically will already own 1/4 of it, maybe I should go ahead and buy it. A friend suggested that I not consider it. He said it is just more work for me to maintain and I am not getting any younger. Now if I were going to move to it, or rent it out, it would be different. Buying it just to own the family farm isn't good for me or my long term needs.
I agree, being debt free has completely changed my thoughts on going to work, and my boss knows it. They have to keep things going my way or they know that I will just retire!
We purchased the home across the street 4 years ago, using our home as collateral. That loan was paid off faster than most because I had gotten used to being debt free! When you don't owe everybody, it is easy to throw all your income at one loan and get rid of it quickly!

re -.1

Curious as to why an 18 year old thread is replied to?
I noticed a couple days ago I started seeing "similar threads" links at the bottom of the page when in a thread. Lots of them are really old. On the big investment thread the similar ones were all from 2000 and 2001.

Ahh....

I never scrolled down that far. Good point and catch.

Thanks.

Well, money-wise it is up to you, but as my dad likes to say they aren't making any more land. I have family in the Oconomowoc area and if land is anything pricewise like around their place, that seems like a heck of a deal.
I agree, land is an appreciating asset. As the worlds population increases, so will the price of land, and good farm land will be at a premium because everyone must eat.

davik must work out his own finance situation, and what newly acquired land will contribute to ROI.
