Kubota M6040/LA153
Hello, I have a M6040 with LA1153 loader. Since it was brand new I have complained about the loader being weak. I complained to my dealer and he suggested I was accustomed to larger tractor loaders or end loaders. I have had the tractor since @March 07 and kept forgetting about the loader until I really needed it. I just read also on Kubotas web site it is the responsibility of the owner to bring the machine to the dealer for warranty work. That is some crap. I finally got around to taking the tractor in for the dealer to look at it. Just picked it up and the service tech said a jamb nut was backed off of the loader cable and they adjusted and it will pick the back tires off the ground. I have fluid in the tires. I brought it home and went to a tandem truck load of dirt that has been sitting for @ a year. I put the loader into the pile and it will not pick up the load of dirt. Before I had to curl my way up through it. Now it seems the curl is weaker. I had a buddy get on while I watched. He did the same as i did in a fresh spot and once he got the bucket into the pile and tried to pick up he put the machine in neutral and reved up to 2000rpm. I could see the tractor pulse/jerk as he tried to pick up and curl. It would not pick up the back tires.
Am I expecting way too much out of this loader?
Thank You for the help.

Thats a possibility. You only have 2300lbs lift capacity in height position and 2500 in power. Do you know what position your loader is in? That is determined by where the lift cylinder hooks into the vertical post. If in the upper hole, you will have less power but more height.

But either way, there is a certain technique when digging into a pile. If you just plunge into the bottom and try to lift up through the pile, you are in reality trying to lift WAY more than one bucket load of dirt.

I would advise you do one of two things here.
1. Get a hydraulic pressure gauge an check your PSI. It should be in the ~2400psi range but check your manual. If low, thats the problem.
or 2. ... you could get something or multiple things that you KNOW weigh ~2300 lbs and fill the bucket and see what it does. Like cement blocks, or suitcase weights, etc.

I am willing to bet either your pressure is low, or using improper technique.

I put a gauge in the rear outlet and got @2550 and as soon as I let the lever go back to center it bleeds off and minutes later to zero. The loader couplings are male and I didnt replumb my gauge and check PSI there.
I have been around tractors and equipment all my life and dont think it is technique as it wont pick the back end off the ground. My Dad is 68 and is farm raised and has used all kinds of equipment and thinks the same. My buddy has a JD5400 @ the same hp and it will do as I am trying to do. He also has a JD4600 which is smaller and a Mcormick that is 85hp and it will pick up through the piles. I am looking up the weight of a pallet of Gel freezer packs that it wouldnt lift right now.
Also the steering wheel is jerky and heavy if tractor isnt reved up.
Thank You for the input.

A friend asked me to move some pallets of Gel freezer packs a couple summers ago. I had to put my forks under them and pick up as high as it would @4-6" and curl to get it off the ground with my forks. I just called the manufacturer of the gel packs. They weigh 42lb per case and 48 cases per pallet. That is 2016lb. I remember adding another layer or two to some of the pallets. If I remember correctly there were 8 cases per layer that would add 672lb+2016=2688lb @152lb over Kubotas stated lift capacity. I am going to see where my pins are.

Pins are in top holes.

Top holes give you more height, and bottum more lift. I have the 5040 and 7040 and they move a bucket load but I have tried to move downed trees and my 5040,(loader is in top holes) and it will not lift back tires off ground(i havent tried it in other yet). The heaviest thing I know I have picked up is a ton of feed on a pallet.I believe they have it set,so we dont bend something:D

I recently read about someone with a Kubota tractor who thought his loader was weak. At the dealer they found a problem with a relief valve in the loader hydraulic circuit, they needed to put in a shim or something. After this they got the right pressure in the loader hydraulic system and the loader was strong.

Check the pressure at the loader valve. IF you are getting the full PSI there, you are getting the rated lift capacity.

And unless you need to lift the stiff 11' in the air, swich mounting holes to the lower one, that will help some with the lift, but not the curl.
