Hi all, I recently traded in an L3301 for an L4060 cab. On my L3301, whenever you turned the key on the glow plug indicator would come on for a second or two no matter how warm outside it is. It's been nothing but hot since I got the new tractor but I've yet to see the glow plug indicator come on. Is this others experience with these tractors?

I've been inspecting it and going over everything to make sure it's all in order, and I recently discovered that I cannot remove the air filter housing cover because the side of the hood is in the way. It seems like I may be doing something wrong because I'd think I'd have heard others complain about that. Does anyone else with these tractors have that issue?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I took delivery of my L3560 in January 2013. I live live in North Florida. In 1,200 engine hours glow plug light has NEVER illuminated.

The grands have a grid heater (more or less the heater coils from a hair dryer) where my old L3200 & probably the L3301 has glowplugs. On the grands you just twist the key & it heats up the grid if needed. On the L3200 you had to twist the key left & hold it to run the glow plugs.

When it's cold enough to require it does it give you an indicator on the dash that you wait to go out before starting?

Have you had your air filter out? My hood doesn't seem to open enough to give clearance to get cover off the air filter housing.

I started the old L3200 with about 10-15 seconds of cranking after 2 sets if 15 seconds of glow plugs at pushing 20 below. A lit harder than normal, but not particularly problematic.

I sent say I've noticed the lowest temp I've started the L4060 at. Not to much snow the past 2 winters, but I've plowed a bit, so likely in the mid to low teens, maybe single digits. Starting was completely non-memorable. Turn key & it started. Maybe double the amount of cranking it normally took. The computer kicks on the grid heater as needed. No turning the key counterclockwise to fire off or waiting for glow plugs. There may be an indicator on the dash, but I dont recall. I try to use the block heater, as much to warm up the cab faster, but it's easier on the engine too. I know some of the pretty cold starts were without it though.

I've had the air filter out to blow it off a handful of times. Not particularly difficult. Make sure you are unlatching the brush guard so it tilts forward. Otherwise the hood wont go up all the way. It doesnt go super high, but enough. Might be a tight fit to wiggle the cover off, but it wasnt painful or memorably hard.

It has a big indicator on the LCD that looks like a spring coil when it is heating. Never comes on when it’s hot out, only when cold. Started mine as low as probably 10F outside (under lean to) with no issues. The colder it is the longer the heating process.

The process is on page 32 of the manual where it shows the symbol. You won’t miss it if you watch your dash when it’s cold. I always watch for it so when it disappears I crank and go.

Thanks a lot guys for the insights. I'm trying to show a picture of the problem I'm having with my air filter cover. There's no room between the hood and the lines for the oil separator.

I tried to push on the hood and the lines to get the clearance, but I wasn't able to wiggle it out. I'm thinking I may have to unhook the shock for the hood to get it to open more.

You should be able to undo those spring clips & pull the end of the housing off. One of the 3 clips is visible ontop of the housing in the pic. Then once that is off the filter inside comes out part way. Lean it over to one side to get it the rest of the way. Nothing particularly challenging at all if I recall.

I was able to undo all the clips I just can't fit the cover out between the hood and the pipe. I'll have to try again and be a bit more forceful.

Here's a picture of it hauling slabs from my neighbours mill. Something a little more interesting than a picture of an air filter housing.FullSizeRender.jpg
