I have a new L5240. I moved from a L3130 and I've noticed a big difference in how hot the hydraulics gets on the L5240 when using the PTO. My L5440 has a loop and remotes while my L3130 had neither. Yesterday while mowing (flail) and I needed to mess with the top link, the pin connecting the top link to the three point hitch was too hot to touch with bare hands. Same was true of the couplings on the loop.
My question is; is this normal and if not what is the likely cause? Thanks.

Hydraulic temp as a rule 100 degrees plus ambient temp is normal, some will get hotter the more restrictions that you run fluid thru the more heat will be generated. not sure how yours hooks up

It's interesting because as you know the flail simply runs off the PTO. There is a lot of up and down with the TPH but that seems to be the the attachment that really get things hot. Of course when I mow it tends to take hours. I haven't really checked it but my guess is the metal that I touched was in the 120-130 range.

As long as both radiators are clear you should be o.k.Amazing how quick they will load up.
