Afternoon, looking at a well maintained L5030 HST at a local dealer that has a considerable amount of hours on it, 2600 hrs. The unit is in better shape than most 1000 hour units I've looked at, but is sitting with a weak hydro at the dealer waiting to be repaired. Dealer isn't sure what the problem is yet, they took it in on a trade and have not tore into it to correct the issue. The machine will move around, but doesn't have all the power it should to the rear wheels. Engine is in great shape, intake is super clean and the oil and filters have all been kept within service intervals.

Any idea on what may be causing a weak hydro?

Would you shy away from a machine with 2600 hrs after the dealer corrects the transmission issue?

I can't help on the weak hydro. How many hours per year do you expect to put on the machine and how long do you expect to use it without major repair. If the engine was taken care of then I would expect it to go 5000-7000 hours with no major issues. Might go more or it might go less.

For the first year there would be several hours put on it. Clearing brush, mowing very tall weeds (5-6'), building a driveway about 1/4 mile long, clearing trees up to 10" in diameter are all on it's chore list the first year, estimate 300-500 the first year. After the work is done considerably less I would estimate.

I would go for a higher hour machine that has been taken care of over a lower hour machine that has not. If possible I would wait to find out what the hydro fix was and see if that has been an ongoing issue with that model of tractor.

does owner have a service log over time? genuine one that is. otherwise, 2600 hrs is a lot...if hydro is out, who's to say what's next. maybe let patience be on the side of prudence on this one...best

Things may be better now but I shopped used 7 years ago it was very disappointing. I ended up buying new. I have bought used before that and it worked out very well for me. Buying used isn't easy.

Very sound advice. 2600 hours is not an issue on a properly maintained Kubota or other quality brand.

My 2002 L5030HSTC has about 2500 hours on it. While I have been, and still am very happy with it, it seems like problems are just now starting to show up. Some things you might want to check: If it has a loader look for excessive play in the front loader pins and bushings. If it has a cab look at the A/C clutch bearing. Also check the electrical plugs/fuse box that are located down near the battery, I have had dirt and corrosion problems with them. Check the tires for dry rot. Good luck, you might want to have a professional mechanic look it over.

Could be simple like a leaking relief valve bleeding off charge pressure - but it could be more involved like worn internal parts. The repair cost range is bipolar - either a few hundred or several thousand. On the prior HST version (Lxx10's and L48) the factory says to simply replace the whole HST unit (~$5k parts, labor extra). Best to let this one sit unless the dealer resolves it and fully explains what it needed and why it's ok now.

At that kind of hours I would not worry if it had the services that it needed when it should have with the proper parts.

Little L-s 3200 hydro's get 6 to 7,000 hours on them in a few years on dairy barns pushing feed into the cows and we have many more what would be considered high hours for compacts shooting into five digits on the hour meeting.
