New poster here. I have an L48 that I want to put a hydraulically powered 3pt log splitter on. From previous posts, I understand that the way to do it is to connect it to the swing circuit, leaving the direction circuit to power the lift arms. I also understand that the quick connects are ISO 7241-1B fittings. Thing is, my tractor is 2000 miles away, so I can't eyeball it for gender and size. There's no way I can do it from memory and I haven't found an online reference. I'd like to buy parts before the next time I travel to the tractor. Can someone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Messick's Tractor will send you a parts diagram via e-mail. Just enter your model and requested part category. I'm guessing "hydraulic system". Then you can "add to cart".

Nope, I tried it and the hydraulic system was there but nothing about the quick connects.

You might call them. 877-260-3528

Thanks for the tip, GW, but I've already tried that. The parts diagram for the hoe only shows made-up hoses for the stock application and doesn't (as nearly as I can tell) identify the fittings in any useful form.

The swing circuit outlet quick connector on my L48 is 1/2" Parker 60 Series male. I put on a grapple valve that stays on the tractor so I teed into the loader valve exhaust line and hard plumbed it.

The male connector is on the tractor side, not on the hoe? (You'd think I'd remember at least that much! Duh! My only excuse is that I've only had the hoe off twice.) How about the return?

I'm seeing conflicting indications online as to whether the return line is active or blocked when the directional handle is in the 3pt position rather than the hoe position. Some sources suggest that to use the swing circuit with the directional handle in the 3pt position requires that you use some weird adapter to return fluid through the fill port. Granting that this is an option, is it the only option? Anyone have any clarity on this?

For running a splitter, you may want to use the main port which has higher flow and will give faster cycle times. I do this on my L39. On my L39 the return port is always active. Also on the L39, when the directional handle is in the 3 point position, oil is still routed to the quick disconnect for the hoe. When the hoe is off and nothing connected, the check in the quick disconnect blocks flow so it all goes to the three point. When I have the splitter connected, if the direction valve is switch to the three point, oil will dump through the splitter valve so there is no pressure to raise the three point. To block flow through the splitter, I just bungee the splitter valve open so that the ram extends to the stop. This effectively blocks flow through the splitter and allows pressure to build for three point.

To get even faster splitter cycle times, I made a hose that ties the swing and main pumps together to feed the log splitter. I put a check in the line to prevent main pressure from back feeding to the swing pump as the swing pump relief is lower.
