I'm about to buy an L48 with aux front hydraulics and 3 rear remotes. I got a quote from my local dealer here in SW Colorado. Very nice folks. I also talked to a dealer out in Kansas. I've got to drive out there in a few weeks, so figured what the heck, I could tow a tractor home. The Kansas dealer is more than 15% below my local dealer. That's comparing exactly the same machines. Has anybody else seen such a large difference? I'm very happy to save the money, but sometimes deals that look too good to be true are too good to be true. According to the quotes I've gotten, just by driving to Kansas and back (which I have to anyway) I can save more than enough to pay for the implements I want.

Anybody else ever seen such a large difference? Or is something fishy?

thanks,
-robert

very much the way it is. I live in the New England area, and prices quoted me were outstanding,,, A buy from 400 miles away saved considerable money, enough to have third valve, snow plow, and a few smaller things thrown in, and still save a couple thousand dollars. Now, I won't deal or talk to any Kubota dealers around me, get my parts from the selling dealer, and almost always are next day delivery..

I bought an L48 recently, I had the same experience. Prices can vary dramatically from dealer to dealer. I found prices to be worse where the L48 was the biggest tractor on the lot (land owner oriented dealers) and better where it was the smallest tractor on the lot (industrial dealers).

Thanks for the feedback guys. The difference is close to $7k, which is huge. Looks like I'll be buying in Kansas. I'll give my local dealer one last shot at the deal, but when I talked to him last week he seemed happy to have me take my business elsewhere. Guess those machines are walking off his lot at full price, so why discount it, eh?

This forum is an excellent place to get good info.

I paid $38K in 2005, but held the dealer to a quote from a year or so prior to that. When I asked the same dealer last year, I want another L48, it was $40.2K due to steel prices and fuel, and just saw one listed in the WantAd at a tractor dealer in NH at $39.9. When I asked a dealer (I won't mention names) to quote me a price, it was several $k higher until I told him the quote was too high and what I was quoted at Chappells in NH. He lowered it to $100 below Chappells, but I went to Chappells out of loyalty (we have at least 5 tractors from Chappells) and ease of service as I live about 10 minutes away. The pricing should be commoditized as a uniform product unless you live away from major dealers. I wanted to buy a used L48 and looked around, you can find them with 1-300 hours for around $25-32K. I remember pricing the L5030 with BH90 and the L48 was only $3-5K more. With the price difference so close and the machines night and day, I did not even hesitate for the L48. I have since convinced 2 others to do the same. BH90 is no BH1100. FYI, I am getting going for the season and moving stuff around, the L39 seems attractive but will not unload full cubes of cobblestones or large rocks that the L48 will do.

I envy you living in Chama. Tried to get my wife to agree to retire there, but she doesn't like snow because we spent two years in Alaska and she said that was enough to last her for her life.

Sent you a PM about a dealer here in Texas.
