l48 issues?

Hi.

Need some help.

Recently I have noticed two issues with my L48.

One- a stablizer groans when lowered.

Two- the BH swing is smooth in one direction but jerky in the other.

Anyone have ideas what may be going on?

I would check on the basics first. Can you tell if the groaning is coming from the stabilizer's pivot ? or from its hydraulic cylinder?

Jerky hydraulic swing could be air trapped in the system - try doing a few full limit-to-limit swings to purge any air. Also exercise the swing speed control valve (if it has one).

I may be wrong but my guess is there isn't anything too serious behind either symptom. Good luck - and keep us posted on how you make out.

If it not in need of grease, have you had a rock between the cylinder and the stabilizer frame?

No rocks anywhere around the stablizer. It is well greased.

It may be the cylinder? If it has a bad seal it could do that and would leak down fast as it is doing. A local guy said to look at the seal thing.

He also said there could be air in the system? I feel that is strange. I have about 10 hours on the back hoe alone from the 50 hr fluid changes. I would thing any air should be gone.

Still it may be air and I will do the swing thing to try to void it?

The reason that I asked about if a rock had been in there is because a rock can bend the shaft. Look at the seal all the way around. Check it at different places on the stroke. See if the seal lip is compressed the same at each stop and also all the way around the seal. This is a good way the check to see if the shaft has a slight bend in it. A slight bent will make it like you said.
