Re: L4610,Rimguard,& Weight (scale research)
Hi Jeff,
I have been doing a lot of "looking-into" this issue, (was considering the rimguard, myself), and am just awhile short of posting some actual weight figures w/ various implements on/off the tractor (JD4700). I have the heavy (1000#+) Landpride scraper(H3578), and a nearly-as-heavy Bush-hog mower. Also a fel (460) w/Long 4in1 bucket(heavy!) and a 48 backhoe.
My tractor is nearly ready, and there is a highway weigh-station about 2-blocks away that has a dig-readout scale that is always in service, even when the scale is unattended (often!). I am going to make numerous trips to the scale with /without every combination of attachments I can think-of, weighing the whole rig as well as front and rear axle loads separately, to get distribution figures. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
This will tell me exactly what I am doing with any added front or rear ballast I might add. (I have a number of 180# blocks of steel I am going to make "attachable" to the front or reart of the tractor, to replace the loader or the backhoe when I don't wish to have them on the rig for whatever reason.
For what it's worth, I've decided (so-far) NOT to use wheel-wts or liquid-fill if it can be avoided.
The tractor will weigh in-the-neighborhood of 7000# (bucket empty) to 8500#(full bucket) in the various configurations, so I'm betting that that will be sufficient "heft"[and traction - Michelin radials on rear(ala Chalkley), and extra-wide front tires] to get good effect from any ground-engagement equipment. (weight includes good-size hyd. cylinders for "top and tilt" and valves/plumbing for 3rd,4th,5th SCV's etc.)
Then when I want the tractor "lighter" for mowing/whatever, I won't be stuck with the problem of removing wheel weights(difficult) or liquid-fill (forget it!). /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif
As for stability, the wide stance of my tractor (about 7'2" to the outside of the rear tread) and the low-CG with the weight placement I intend, along with fel/backhoe caution, should be more than adequate.
Don't know if these comments will be helpful to you or not. Pretty sure the figures I get from the scales will be! If you're not in too-big a hurry to make some of these decisions, might be worth holding-off awhile. (Our tractors are in the same "ballpark" sizewise, since mine is bigger in some ways than a "standard" 4700.
All the figuring (diagrams are a big help,... and a solid understanding of "leverage") and the measurements needed to dope this out, would make quite a lengthy post.
But I plan such a "full-report" when my scale-research is complete,... hoping that it will be of sufficient help/interest to the members, to be worth the trouble. It will be "worth it' to me, in any case, because I like to know-what-I'm doing with this kind of stuff /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif .
Good luck with your rig /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif !
