Kubota L4610 HSTC, International 2400, Hesston 1280,
I am trying to clean the hst strainer for the first time. Is there a way to get the strainer out from behind the spring tensioning bar that brings the hst pedal back to the neutral position when you take your foot off the pedal? It seems very close to coming out, but won't. I am thinking I will cut off the back side of the lever that the spring attaches to, to give it slide out room.
My dealer could give me no help.

It is a tight fit. I pulled the screen partially out and assumed the fluid coming out flushed the screen clean. Rather than risk damaging the screen, I just pushed it back in and called it good. I figured the transmission and hydraulic filters would pick up anything else. The fluid in the drain pan looked clean (no trails of metal) at 50 hour change so I felt confident that breakin was going well.

I just completed the 50 service on our 4610 today.I just unhooked the spring,it's open ended, and reattached. Also pulled a cotter key to drop another rod out of the way.A little bit of a pain, but I wanted to see and clean the strainer. Was'nt much to it.

When you pulled the spring, did the lever move far enough to the rear for the strainer to come out? I noticed the lever with the spring sets in the shortest spring position with the hst pedal in the center position & moves toward the rear with the pedal in either the forward or rear position, but did not travel far enough for the strainer to be pulled.

Yes,it moved rearward just enough that the head of the strainer came out with no problem. In my ignorance I can't tell you what the other rod was that I also dropped to get it out of the way.

It's about 3/4"x18", I pulled a cotter key to drop it,so the strainer would clear.

Everything was VERY clean, less metal than when I did the 50 hr. on our BX.

Most likely you have a defective owner's manuel. When doing my 50 hour service, my manuel had no description of this procedure to remove the neutral position spring. The dealer's manuel had the correct procedure described in detail. Go by your dealer and get a new updated owner's manuel that describes this procedure.
Hope this helps.

The manual given to me one month ago says "F-10471" on the front cover and "Code No. TA140-1971-5" on the back. It does not mention disconnecting anything in order to get the strainer out. The dealer couldn't find the manual that came with the L4610 when I stopped by (by surprise) a couple of days after ordering the tractor so they gave me one that had the L3710 circled on the cover (It does also say L4610). If someone can confirm that this is not the current manual, I'll go back and ask for it. Do you know about when they updated it?

BTW... First time posting here and I must say thank you to all the regulars who have helped me over the past couple of years. I've learned a great deal!

My 4610 is a 2000 model and the manual #'s are the same as you mention. They kind of gloss over HOW to get it out. As I said before, when it gets backed out, the backwash of fluid seems to clean the screen. I was unable to see anything on it, but I could see enough of the screen to see that it wasnt dirty either. Chances are more crud would get into it anyway by monkeying around to get it out. Kind of like more rifles are worn out by overzealous cleaning, it may be counter productive unless you can see crud that needs to come out. I usually watch the fluid that drains out, if there is a metallic "haze" in the oil or particles of clearly visible size in the bottom of the pan, then it might warrant a more complete cleaning.

Both manuels have the same code numbers you mentioned. Even so, one has a picture of the aforementioned spring location along with the following statement.
IMPORTANT: To reach the strainer carefully remove the spring end from the neutral holder assembly. Move the neutral holder on the side opposite the neutral spring only as much as needed to reach the strainer. Do not touch the lock nuts which are fixing the spring. After reassembling verify the length(total length of spring) is 100 mm (3.94 in.).
Moving the neutral holder assembly rod toward the back of the tractor allows enough room for me to remove this transmission strainer, even though it is a tight fit and takes a little patience. I have an L4310, so it may be a little different, but the owner's manuel doesn't appear to show this. I didn't bother to measure the spring length after this procedure either, and my machine still is alive and kickin'.
Hope this helps.

Thanks fellows for all the help.
Its interesting to know that I can learn more on TBN than from the Kubota dealer.
Now I will fess up.
I went ahead & did my job the day I asked for help & before I received your messages. I had the tractor up on the fel & floor jack at rear. My safety stands were not as tall as they should be & I was afraid to remove the spring, wondering if it might let the fel fall. So I removed the brake linkage, allowing me to reach the neutral lever with my 4" grinder. Ground a little off the heel of the neutral lever & now the strainer comes out without removing anything.
