I'm in the market for a new tractor I have a 135 massey right now IMO it is just about indestructable I'v used it pretty serverly for the last 5 years .Now I need to up grade to a fel model w/4x4 I looked at the dk 35 and the dk45 I would like to have a 45 but I just cant afford it right now .I priced a L4400 and it is pretty close to the dk40 ,just wondering how they compare .
I'm going to be using which ever one for bushhogging and skidding logs to my portable band mill I've been using the 135 for sometime now so ithink the dk40 should do the job ,if I thought that the 35 would be stought enough imight get it instead it drove out like apretty good machine I didnt try to put it in 4x4 though I see that some of you are having prob. with that sort of thingthat is something that i wil use the most of .
I appreciate the info

Vince,
The L4400 is a brand new model Kubota. I've not seen one at my local Kubota/Cub/Case dealer yet, but I understand it to be a fairly basic machine that is either a replacement for the L4300 or is a product line expansion of the L4300 Kubota.

Thanks Bob,
John Deere and Kubota having so many models and always changing model #'s around I can barely keep track.

Does the dk40 and the 45 have the perkins diesel in them? What I'm wanting to know is if the 40 is a pretty stout versital machine i test drove the DK35 is the 40 any bigger in size ?

gunner: I'm pretty sure the engines in both are Daedong engines not Perkins. At least they are Daedong in the Cub Cadet 8000 series tractors and I am under the impression that the Cub 8000 machines are virtual clones of the DK35/40/45 tractors.

The wheelbase of the DK40 is about 4.3" longer than the DK35, the 3pt capacities are the same, the overall length is 3" longer, the weight of the DK40 is about 300# heavier.

The DK 40 and 45 are 4 cylinder DaeDong engines
The DK 65 has the Perkins

Like Bob said, the DK 40 is slightly longer than the 35 with a 4 cylinder engine vs a 3.
The 40 has a stronger loader than 35.

gunner,
The 4x4 on my DK 35 works fine. It always goes in 4x4 very easy. To take it of 4x4 I just pull up on the lever while driving (not under load) and it pops right out. On rare occasions it gets bound up a bit and doesn't want to come out of 4x4 I just pick the front wheels off the ground with the loader and it comes right out.
Overall I've been very happy with my DK.
Good luck in your search.

Gunner, I don't have a Kioti, but these 4x4s get driveline windup. If mine gets tough to shift , I just put in reverse and move backwards until I can shift it....just another technique in addition to the one Vince mentioned. I'd think you might want to pay attention to the weight of the tractor...more weight would probably help when you are moving those logs around. I am a closet wannabe sawyer....would sure like to have a personal bandmill just to play with. I would think a good quick attach pallet fork would also be a must have item. A sawyer I've had at my place, said he mounted a couple of truck springs on his bucket....on a rod that is mounted to the bucket....via a couple drilled holes. I haven't seen it , but sounds like a poor man's pallet fork, and probably wouldn't cost much to put together. good luck in your search.
