Took delivery on L4400 4WD with LA703 FEL, and Land Pride RCR1872 Rotary Cutter yesterday. Came with loaded Ag tires. Very impressed with initial power compared to my old Ford 801 Powermaster. I really like the design on the new Land Pride cutter. Much heavier reinforcement than I remember on one that I looked at last year. For reference, I have included the pricing below:

L4400 15,300
LA703 4,000
1872 1,350

Thanks for all the good information that I got from this list before purchasing, and I will try to post some pics later.

You'll love that thing, bigfrog. I got one of the last of the L4300's in Dec. It's the predecessor to your L4400, similar but without the updated transmission. So far, it's done virtually everything I've asked of it (move snow, pull out trees, lift stuff) between idle and 1300RPM. Power to spare and excellent traction in 4WD. Of course I haven't run the brush cutter with it yet. It'll have to get above idle to do that.

Seems like you got a good price for the L4400. I seem to recall some others here quoting prices that were a thousand or two higher. I think you'll find it's some of the best money you've ever spent. After 4 months, that's how I feel about mine.

You'll need the filled tires. Without 'em the tractor would be too light to get that power to the ground.

Take good care of that thing and it'll be around to help you for a long long time.

Bob: Ran the cutter some yesterday. None of the areas were high enough or heavy enough to really give it a tough workout, but it mowed some pretty tall fescue with ease. I may have forgot to mention the tires are loaded, but it still "feels" a little lighter than the old Ford 801. I think one of the reasons that the 4400 cuts so well is that I was probably hesitant to rev up my old Ford to the level needed to really spin the PTO. With this tractor, I can tell the blades are really spinning which should help with the cutting.

Very good price. I passed up the L4400 for the L4300 after much comparison, I just did not feel the extras and minimal improvements were worth another four grand.

I have the manual trans with filled ag tires and loader. Very impressed with this tractor which does full time farm work on a working farm and is used heavy.

Because of a back injury I cannot sit in a skid loader so wanted get the heaviest 4x4 compact on the market that would sbe small enough to fit in the barn and big enough to pinch hit for the 864 IH.

The L4300 is still a little light even with loaded tires but the 4x4 makes up for it. For example: My Farmall H will not pull the 12 ft JD transport disc in a plowed field but the L4300 will.
The L4300 will also run the NH 268 baler w/thrower and pull with ease the loaded 213 NH manure spreader.

Satisfied so far even without a fancy cup holder.

picked up my 4400 about a month ago and am way impressed. haven't run a cutter yet but have pulled an 8 1/2 foot 20 by20 disk and i did not even sweat. way better than my ih 464. it may be alittle light but 4x4 makes up for it. i paid a litttle less for the tractor and a little more for the loader so it all comes out in the wash. missouri and alabama pricing are real close. by the way, don't know about you but the cup holder sure is handy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The L4400 is what I have my eyes on currently (but still looking) and I have a question as to the width. When I looked at the tractor on the lot it just seemed narrow, can the rear wheels be set wider? What is the widest width possible?

To dknarnd:

I asked the dealer about that when I purchased mine and he said you could. However, as mine was setup, the center to center width on the rear tires is about 48" - 50" with an outside width of a bit over 62" -- if I remember right. The dealer told me I would not want to go much wider so that the tires stay inside the width of the 6' FEL bucket. Not having much experience with a FEL, I took his word for it and left the rear tires as they had them set up. Looking back on that, it does still look like I would have a few inches to play with on the width. I have done quite a bit more cutting with the unit since my first post, and it seems every bit as stable as my old Ford, even though the Ford was setup with a little bit wider stance. I did mow a bit on a pond levee, and the "feel" was very solid. Cutting overgrown fields is going very well. Even in heavy, tall grass and bushes, I am moving much faster than I was with the old Ford and I can't tell there is any load on the tractor. So far, my experience has been very positive.
