Ford 1920 4x4 (traded in on Kubota). Case 480F TLB w/4 in 1 bucket, 4x4. Gehl CTL60 tracked loader, Kubota L4330 GST
Service schedule says change hydraulic filter every 200 hrs but only change hydraulic oil every 400. Counter guy at dealership said that's not a misprint. So last time, I lost a lot of oil in the process, even though I tilted the tractor sideways to elevate the filter side. Anybody have a trick for this to avoid hemorrhaging expensive hydraulic oil while mounting the new filter?

Connect your shop vac to the filler port to provide a partial vacuum. You will not prevent all loss, some fluid will be lost with the filter and you will lose a small amount in the line above the filter. This may lose one to two quarts. The thread on the filler cap is one inch female NPT. I threaded a one inch socket to male NPT PVC adapter into it to adapt to my shop vac. Good Luck.

Shop vac works well. I had to tape the hose to the fill port due to the design on the 60 series Grand Ls. But it kept oil from coming out with the filters off for several minutes. Oil in the filters came out.

I've never used the shop vac, I just find all the vents and plug them.

OP here,

Thanks, All, for your great suggestions. Looks like the Clean Bucket option works best for me, especially if I can find all the vents. Aside from the fill port, are there any other vents?

And as since I'll use the Clean Bucket method, is the residual oil in the old filter mostly filtered or mostly unfiltered?

The vacuum trick works a treat. Very easy and painless. I did it on my previous L3130 and my current L5240.
