L4200 tach and clutch

Hey. I致e just registered for TBN after reading several helpful posts. I知 the new owner of a?5 L4200DT GST . The pointer on the tachometer is not steady. When operating with the throttle set, It fluctuates quite a bit, about 500 rpms , making it difficult to know exactly what RPMS engine is running. Could it be the tach cable, or the gauge itself?
Also, the clutch (pedal) is extremely difficult to push, and returns very slowly. Is there some means of adjusting/lubricating the clutch so it operates a little easier?

I am going to guess and say where the tach cable meets the angle drive on the timing cover, you probably have some wear - likely a new cable will set things right. You could take pliers and crimp the end but if it is worn, you should replace the cable - lube it up with speedometer cable lube so it will slide in the housing readily.

On the clutch being slow to engage and disengage, likely the cross shaft to the throwout fork is binding to the housing. You need to split it - yes, a big job but your have to clutch it soon anyhow - and rebush the bores with greasable bushings and install a grease zerk on each one. This will keep things moving and the clutch should not be slow in or out.

Thanks for the info on the cable, I'll check it for wear.

After a bit more checking, the cross shaft IS binding in the housing. Splitting the housing is no big deal. Are the greasable busings available from Kubota?
Will I need to drill & tap the housing to install the zerks? And, where can I find the specs for clutch thickness so I can replace it if necessary?
