Hi,

I've been quoted the following:

2010 L3940HSTCC Cab
- rear wiper blade, rear and side defrost for cab
- 2 rear remotes
- LA734 loader with SS quick attach bucket
- old inventory discount (been on the lot a little over a year)
$33500 cash price

2010 L4240HSTCC Cab
- rear wiper blade, rear and side defrost for cab
- 2 rear remotes
- LA854 loader with SS quick attach bucket
$36650 cash price.

all prices plus tax.
Are these reasonable?
Thanks

In the ball park for Canadian pricing;both are great tractors.I l have an L4240HSTC.For loader work..the 854 on the L4240 is very powerful. They have the same wheel base, the L4240 has an heavier duty front Axel.Close call the L3940 is the sweet spot in the Kubota line-up.Very happy with my L4240.

While I believe the adage, "bigger isn't always better, sometimes bigger is just bigger when my wife and I began looking for a tractor, we started looking at the L32/3540 and quickly gravitated to the L39/4240. They are both really nice tractors. We bought a used L5030 that came in before we ordered one. It has essentially the same loader as the L4240 and the extra capability really is nice.

As to HP, the cab will use up a few, so that needs to be factored in.

I think the $3150 difference equates to around $1350 in real world discount. In my neck of the woods there was a $1800 difference in price between the 3940 and 4240.

The extra lift capacity of the 854 loader would still push me towards the 4240. However, if you plan on a belly mower the 3940 would be the way to go :)

The tractor would be used for snow removal (blower, front blade) on a 1.2km (~4000ft) private road, and road repair (pot holes, grading etc) on a base of recycled asphalt. Secondary use, landscaping: moving dirt and larger stones. No mowing as I only have an acre lot. I like the load capacity of the LA854, as I move lots of stone.

Honestly if these are the going rate in Canada I'll have to look at another brand.

I was kind of hoping the dealer was out to lunch on his pricing. But if that isn't the case, I'll just move on. It is a nicer machine no doubt about it, but I can't justify the difference for my case.

Thanks

I snow blow about 3/4 of a mile, about what it sounds like you are going to do. I went with the 4240 because I wanted the extra height of the loader because of the height of the side of my dump truck. After a winter of using the tractor I wouldn't go less HP. It's rare that I can't use all the HP the engine has. If the snow is not deep I can just go faster to load the engine.

One storm this year was about 20". I had to use L and the H-DS set to slow or the snow would go over the top of the blower. Even then I had to go the slowest speed the tractor could go. I can't know for sure but I think if I had any less power I would of had to start and then stop to let the blower clear out some then start again.

As to prices, since I don't live in Canada I can't tell you if they are good or not.

I just purchased the L3940 HSTC a few weeks ago. One of the reasons I went with it is that the dealer had it in stock and got a really good deal. If I had had the choice of buying a 4240 for about 2000.00 more at the time I would have went with that. 3100.00 difference would make me really take stock of what I really need. Even though I don't need the extra PTO for what I do or the extra loader capacity at that price difference if available for about 2000.00 IMO is a sound investment. Both tractors are fine machines and you won't go wrong with either.
