Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
I've been keeping an eye out on what is available used around here as I hate paying sales taxes.

A 50 some hr L3940HSTC caught my attention the other day with the LA724 loader and remotes. Based on my analysis I had sorta decided that a L4240 HSTC was the sweet spot for me between size, HP and the extra loader capacity. It is listed at $33000 with a 72" snowblower

A new L4240HST prices out to quite a bit around here: 37k + 13% = $43k == not worth it.

I have a L3400 HST right now and the darn thing does near everything I need it to without having a cab. I would like to have some extra height and reach pulling down 4x5 bales from a trailer. Around here I think I could get a reasonable amount for it in a private sale so I am pondering an upgrade.

How much less do you think a 3940 could do vs a 4240?

Thanks for the pointer. It seems to me that my best bet is going to be to wait around and try to find a used L4330 HSTC or L5030 HSTC on a private sale. I love the smell of new or nearly new but not sure it might be worthwhile.

Pretty sure it is a rear mount.

No mid pto option for the GL40's bigger than a L3940 so it would have to be either a rear mount or a front mount that gets its power from the rear PTO.

My L5740 has a mid pto as an option.:thumbsup:

I was in the process of buying a L4240 HSTC when a L5030 HSTC became available when the owner who had brought it in for service traded it in on an open station L5740. I saved a lot of money and have a very nice tractor. Of course deals like that don't come along often or at least around here.

The 4240 has the larger loader that lifts a little more and lifts about 10" higher but I think the 3940 would have no problem with 4x5 round bale. I know around here they usually weigh between 700 to 1200. If the tractor is at a dealer then I would ask to try it out by lifting a bale. Hopefully it has the SSQA so you can get a set of forks or a bale spear for the loader and move the weight closer to the tractor.

I know prices up there are higher than down here. So that price is about what that tractor would have cost new down here last year. If it's a front mount blower then it would have cost a good $3k more than that new. But again that's US prices. Personally I wouldn't give up looking at it.
