Thanks to TBN, and especially Muleskinner, I fixed the stiff position control on my L39 3-pt. hitch today. I posted a gripe about a month ago because my 3-pt. hitch control was so stiff that I had to whack it with my hand in order to budge it. Muleskinner PM'd me almost immediately, but I didn't log back in for three weeks. When I did, I got his PM and called him. He's a great guy, and he told me exactly what his dealer did to fix the same problem on his L39.
So here it is. If your L39 3-pt. hitch position control is too hard to move, remove the sheet panel in front of your seat. Five or six 12 mm bolts. The knob that controls the drop speed of your 3-pt. implements just pulls off. On the right side of the transmission you will see where the 3-pt. position control shaft enters the tranny. Easy to find, because you can move the control lever forward and back and see the shaft move.
On the shaft are two 19 mm nuts. Back them out, and you will feel the 3-pt. position control get easier and easier to move. When it gets to where you like it, tighten the nuts against each other and replace the sheet metal cover.
I didn't even bother to replace the cover. I drove the tractor up to the south parcel and started moving dirt. The position control still drags against the metal control cover (probably to keep it from rattling), but I just pull it toward me a little and adjust the box scraper up or down a hair... just what it needs to do fine grading. SWEET! After I smoothed out my yard, I replaced the sheet metal and put the tractor away. Thanks again, TBN and Muleskinner!
