L3830 4WD making noise and locking up in 2WD

I have a L3830 GST high hours and the 4 WD unit is making noise when turning and is locking up in 2WD. I checked the fluid in the a front axle tube and it was low so replace and refilled but problem still remains. First can anyone help me diagnosis the problem and second i need a service repair manual because I would like to repair myself. I already have a parts manual.

I'd say you might have a gear that is bad or a bearing. I'd raise the front end and try spinning the front wheels to see which one has a problem.
