L3800HST
I'm looking at an L3800HST with turf tires...8.5" wide on the front and 13.6" on the rears. The nature of my work causes me to tip toe across customer's lawns on a regular basis. I noticed that the Grand L Series has 12.5" wide tires on the front and 18" wide in the rear. Has anyone ever put wider tires on a standard L series for more flotation? If so can you steer me in the right direction? Thanks!

:welcome: to TBN! You can run wider ones but you want the right tire to tire ratio when running in 4wd. The front tires should pull just a little faster than the rear tires, if it is the other way it will strain 4wd components and potentially damage valuable components. For wider though, it is fine, you could put dual tires on it if you wanted, that alone says it can be done.

You would have to find out the actual diameters of the two tires and see if the size difference front vs rear was the same. If it is, or very close, it would work. If not you would run into trouble as mentioned above.

Also, keep in mind one of the reasons the L3240 has wider turf tires is because it is heavier than the L3800, by quite a lot. I bet the actual ground pressure between the two would be fairly similar.

Thanks for the prompt replys and the great advice! Does anyone know what the ground pressure of an L3800HST is? Possibly compared to the Grand L3240?

Watch your steering angle with the wider front tires, it could get into your axle or steering components if tires are not set wide enough. Ground pressure is weight of tractor (pounds) divided by surface contact of all four tires (inches squared). I have never seen this published for Kubota tractors, so you may have your homework cut out for you researching tractor weights and tire manufacturer specs. Philip.

I have the Grand L3540 with R4's on and I mow with a Woods RFM, but without the 724 loader on. It does not leave as much of a track as my B3200 with loader on did, as you stated the tires both front and rear of the Grand L are much wider. But as what was stated before, the Grand L 's are much heaver tractors.
