I own a 2 year old Kubota L3710HST tractor.
During my annual tractor clean up last winter (2004) with approx. 75 hours on the motor, I noticed a residue path below the water pump weep hole. It was a tract of a dried whitish substance from the weep hole down the front of the water pump housing. I cleaned of the whitish substance off and kept an eye on this area of the engine for the next several months. I never found antifreeze leaking from this weep hole, but occasionally found a small trace of the dried whitish substance on the water pump housing.
During my annual clean up this winter (2005) with 134 hours on the motor, I noticed the same residue tract, but this time is seems to have a little bit of a greenish tint to it and the sweet smell of antifreeze when I wiped my finger a crossed it and smelled it. The area is not wet; it just has the residue were a trace amount of antifreeze has leaked out and dried on the front of the water pump housing. Is this a normal condition for this engine? I have removed the V-belt from the water pump and checked for play in the pump shaft; everything feels normal. The engine temperature has always run steady and has never gotten hot.
Has anyone else who owns this model of Kubota tractor noticed this problem on their tractor?
I contacted my local Kubota dealer and they told me they have never had any problem with water pumps on this model of tractor before.
I am having a hard time believing that my water pump has failed on a practically brand-new tractor that hasn’t seen a hard days work since it was purchased. Especially since this problem has been apparent from back when the tractor had only 75 hours on the clock. I would expect a water pump to last well over 1000 hours before having to replace it.
Thanks in advance for any information on this problem.
