I have a L3400 with a Bush Hog RDTH84 84in rear discharge mower.

While this is the combo recommended by my dealer, it just seems too big.

The L 3400 recommends no more than 770 lb mower, but the Bush Hog is 874 lb.

Drags me all over the place on uneven terrain and I have to spin the guts out of the motor to get a decent cut. Front weights or leaving the FEL on help some.Without any additional weight on the front, all I do is wheelies or have very little steering control.

My Bush Hog is a well constructed HD mower, just too big.

I want to replace this mower with a 72in.. I've got it narrowed down to a few models and I hope you guys can give me some feedback on some my choices.

Looking at...

Bush Hog
FTH 720
RDTH-72

King Kutter
FM-72
SFM-72
RFM-72
RSFM-72

Land Pride
AT2672
FDR1672
FDR2572

Woods
RM660
RD72
PRD7200

While these are not the only mowers available, these are the ones carried by most dealers in my area.

I was set on rear discharge when I got my tractor/mower, I'm not sure that side discharge is a bad thing. I do notice that side discharges seem to be a bit lighter than rear discharges.

My ground is also a bit rocky and it is not unusual to pull a softball to football size rock up into the mower now and again-I do need a mower that can take a bit of abuse.

The Land Pride AT series is a high lift mower claiming better performance on the uneven and sometimes damp ground I have. Anyone got one out there??

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Any of the mowers that have rear discharge would be great. I prefer the Landpride and Woods models.
All of the mowers you have listed will require that tractor be run at PTO speed to get the best cut.

I had a Bushhog RDTH60 that I ran behind a B7500 and a little behind my L2800, the L2800 was very commanding over the mower and did a great job, I had no problems running it without the FEL either on either machine. The only thing with the Bushhog is you need to grease the guage wheels before and after mowing.

if you have a lot to mow bigger is faster. 99% of the time the fm should be on the ground and you are dragging it. maybe you have some hills.

i also with with the others that best cut is at 540 pto engine speed. I keep mine up in that range.

I have a Woods 5 foot mower that works fine behind my L2800, i would not put anything bigger behind the L2800, but you have 5-6 more hp than me so maybe it will work.
