Yea about 700lbs in weight, smoother HST, Absolutely butter smooth position control, 1200lbs difference in 3pt capacity, 2gpm difference in pumps, up to 450lbs more in lift capacity in the 723 loader (500mm fwd) more comfy seat for long hrs in the saddle.
There's more but you get the idea, that's why they want more.
Hp is not everything and these are two different tractors, I have the L2800 and it fits my place just right, a Grand L would be just a hair big.
I think the L3400, wich I own, is a lot simpler, yes, but if you like simple and reliable, is an excelent tractor, and also, for some uses, the same 34 hp engine of both models, might benefit from those 700 lb. of weight less on the L3400, wich is my case, as I use my tractor 85% of the time for pulling a trailer, and it means 700 lb. more I can put in the trailer with the same Hp.
The standard L3400 HST is what I bought and I had some of the same questions. Some of the Grand L features are very nice. The 3pt. probable being the biggest difference and the loader choices second. I can live without the fancy dash, tilt wheel and the other frills. If money is not an issue, go with the 3430. If you want to save a few bucks and buy some extra attachments that you not have been able to, go with 3400. It is a really good value for the dollar. You will like either one. Brian
Very different tractors...yes, similar HP...go drive them...look at capacity and weight #'s...think about what you want to do with the tractor MOST of the time.
In researching this exact subject recently one dealer I asked stated the price difference between the 3430 and the 3830 was too small to consider the 3430. I've forgotten the actual price difference though.
Looked at L3400/L3130/L3430 harvest returns. Biggest difference is size- you can fit a L3400 between 8' grape rows much easier. However, you lose about 800 lbs lift on LA723 loader plus 800lbs in weight, HST is MUCH smoother on L30 series. My neighbor bought a l3400 for $20k with fail mower new. I just bought a l3130, LA723 loader, quick attach, gearmore pallet fork frame for $19k delievered at 4% interest for 5 years.
