Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
Just going to do my 100 hr in a few days. Manual says I should be cleaning the fuel filter in kerosene.

My 100 hrs was obtained over 2 years. I'd rather not much with cleaning the fuel filter.

What do you guys think - shoud I just replace the fuel filter? I'm going to be replacing the oil and oil filter even though the manual says just replace the oil.

I went ahead and picked up a fuel filter with the 50hr. supplies. I plan on changing it at the 100 hr. mark. I don't remember the cost of the filter, but I don't think it was much.

I would just clean it since there isn't much more involved than replacing it.
You can just use diesel fuel to clean it instead of kerosene.

For teh few $$ these things cost, I always replace. Figure there was a chance of picking up incidental contaminants form a diesel wash.

I go back and forth on this, too. You can make a case for doing either. The filter is rather inexpensive, compared to every thing else involved in a service, but dang, it doesn't look bad when I take it out. Maybe it's the Power Service I add to the fuel... I compromise and replace it every other time, as long as it looks good.
As to the oil filter, I know what the manual says, but I've never changed engine oil without changing the filter. I wouldn't mind skipping the HST filter, at the price of those babies, but wouldn't dare to - too much at risk!

I'd change it once, not clean it! Then you very well could run it for quite some time, for many people the fuel will get contaminated with water before real debris will clog it but a spare fuel filter I recommend to be on a shelf in the garage!

I decided to bite the bullet and pick up a fuel filter and an oil filter.

Given the few hours I put on my machine I have no problem doing a filter change while I am doing an oil change even though the manual does not call for it. Plus I'm changing over to 5W-40 so might as well get whats stored up in the oil filter.

Its really too bad that Kubota does not incorporate a water drain petcock into the fuel filter cups.

I may price and obtain a new plastic cup, to replace the old one when I break it while trying install a petcock into the old cup.

Got the service done today. I really I'm glad that I changed the fuel filter. There was quite a bit of gunk in there. Given I am only going through about 50 hrs a year I think I'll stick to a schedule of oil and filter every year, fuel filter, hst filters and udt every other year.
