Hi all!

Tomorrow is delivery day for my 3130 hst. Have a 7ft. (Woods HBL84-2) on order but I see in the operator's manual under implement limitations that the max cutting width recommended is only 6 ft. In fact all of the Grand L line has the same limitation. Is this bogus? The max digging depth for backhoes for the entire Grand L series is only 90 in.(7 1/2 ft.) and yet we have the BH90 available for all Grand L's. What's the story? Should I bail on the 7 footer and go with the 6? If I do the blade won't cover the rear tires when angled.

" I'm soooo confused!"

NO... don't downsize on the blade...

Stick with the 7' rear blade... ideal size for that tractor's grunt power... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Like John said, don't down size. the 7' blade is just right for the size and weight of your new tractor.

Sweet tractor. I'm jealous.

The specs that they publish for these tractors tends to be on the conservative side. I suspect that many folks have a tendancy to push the limits of their equipment and so the manufacturers tend to make recommendations with a large safety factor built in to protect themselves.

Your tractor should be just fine with the larger blade. You can always take shorter cuts (move less material) if you start to bog down your tractor, but I doubt that'll be neccessary.

Congratulations on your new purchase. You should be very happy with it.

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif That's why God helped invent the "position control"... if ya start bogging down... just lift the blade up... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Keep the 7 footer!

I've got the Woods HBL-72-2 blade for my B2910. The seven foot blade should be fine for the L series.

You'll love that blade! It is one nice unit.

I use a Woods 84" on my 3130 with no problems and is the size to get to cover your footprint when angled as you stated.
Have fun with your new machine-you will enjoy it!

I don't know why they list a 6' max on the rear blade.
Mine is 6' and wish it was 7' to cover the tracks when angled.

I don't see how you could ever bog down the L3130 with a 6 or 7' rear blade. Mine doesn't even know its back there no matter what angle/tilt I put it at.

Recommend checking with your Kubota dealer. The warranty and implement limitation is quite specific. The blade exceeds the cutting width and probably also the weight. The question is not if the tractor can handle it - which it most likely can - but what effect does the implement attachment have, if any, on the warranty. Your interest in clarifying this issue up front is a good idea. Good luck.

You raise an interesting point regarding the warranty issue. In this case, I don't think it would affect the warranty, but it would be interesting to see if a dealer could verify that.

I have noticed on several tractors that Kubota will state an implement size that seems to have more to do with what size implement Kubota sells then what the tractor could actually handle.

For instance, with the previous L series, I believe Kubota specified that the largest 3 pt. snow blower on ANY of the L's was 60". This just doesn't make any sense from a power standpoint as my B2910 handles a 60" fine. Also, the larger L's were wider than 60", so a 60" blower wouldn't clear a path wide enough to drive the tractor through. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I believe, however, that the largest rear mount snowblower Kubota sold was the 60", so therefore, with Kubota implements, that was the largest they would recommend.

Well...I believe that's what I thought when I was checking out snowblowers a couple of years ago. It may or may not be true in all cases, but is sure seemed that way for the snowblowers. Rear blades might be the same.

As I type this, I thought to check my B2910 owners manual. On page 12 at the top they state:

The KUBOTA Tractor has been thoroughly tested for proper performance with implements sold or approved by KUBOTA. Use with implements which are not sold or approved by KUBOTA and which exceed the maximum specifications listed below, or which are otherwise unfit for use with the KUBOTA Tractor may result in malfunctions or failures of the tracor, damage to other property and injury to the operator or others. [Any malfunctions or failures of the tractor resulting from use with improper implements are not covered by the warranty.]

I guess I'm in trouble then, 'cause in my manual they list the following limitations:

Boxblade max. @ 54"...mine is 60".

Rearblade max. @ 66"...mine is 72".

Back hoe max. @ 72"...mine is 90" (and Kubota sells a 90" for it. They also say a subframe is necessary, yet Kubota's hoe isn't really a subframe mount, from what I understand. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

Rotary tiller max. @ 50"...mine is 60".

Snowblower max. @ 60"...mine is 60" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I got one right!

I've never thought or worried about it, and now my tractor is out of warranty so it doesn't really matter to me. My dealer never questioned the units I bought either.

Hmmm...I guess Kubota has an out IF you should damage your equipment with an implement larger than spec'd. I would think that's where having a good dealer on your side would really be worthwhile. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
