I am being offered an L3010 HST with a 16" Woods' backhoe w/ a PTO pump. It has been represented to me as being as good as the Kubota backhoe, but will save me $500. Can anyone tell me anything about this implement? Total price of L3010 w/ backhoe, reinforced FEL, welded hook on FEL, toothbar, turf tires, orange paint = $25,000 High? Low?

Comments please...

Kubota L3010 w/ Woods Backhoe

This is in Columbia County, NY west of S. Mass.

I really liked the 3 point setup on this combo... I don't know about the longevity... but it looked hefty and seemed quick to mount/dismount...

If that's a Woods 7500 backhoe, the price is good. Maybe you could get another $500 off. You dont need the pto pump, but of course the seller probably wants to get rid of it with the hoe. Dealers and owners here in CT consider the Woods 7500 to be as good as the Kubota 4690.

Be aware that the Woods 7500 comes in a subframe mount and a 3ph mount. Most people consider the subframe mount to be stronger and safer. However, they are incompatible with a belly mower, if that is important to you. If you dont use a belly mower, then you might want the Woods subframe mount.

The Bradco 408 is a much better hoe than the Woods or Kubota for the 3010, imho.

JohnMiller3, thanks for the pics...

glennmac: the dealer states that the pto pump allows the backhoe to be self-contained in the use of oil for the hydraulics and not mix with the oil from the engine. This is supposed to protect the engine if ever there is a problem. He’s making a mechanical/technical point that I don’t fully understand. Do you?

Regarding your other points: should I then presume that the subframe is permanent and will preclude me from ever using a belly mounted mower? And how is the Bradco a much better backhoe? And finally, if the subframe mount is, in fact, “stronger and safer,” and the Woods is considered the Kubota’s equal, then would you agree that this would be a reasonable trade-off; i.e., “stronger and safer” in exchange for a backhoe inferior to a Bradco and no belly mounted mower option?

Kelago,

If you want a belly mower on a Kubota, you essentially have to go with a Kubota or Woods 3ph mounted hoe. The subframe of the Woods subframe mount comes off with the hoe, but brackets remain on the tractor that would interfere with a belly mower. The Bradco subframe remains on the tractor, so it too would interefere with a belly mower. In John Deere's 4000 series their frame mounted hoe has been designed not to interfere with their belly mower.

I say the Bradco 408 is superior because it has a longer reach, higher digging strengths, mounts closer to the tractor than the Woods, and is generally more strongly contructed. Its swing mechanism is by hydraulic cylinders mounted high off the ground, as opposed to the Kubota and Woods chain drives that are mounted low to the ground. The Bradco has a swing speed control, too. The Bradco is also more expensive.

You can provide the hydraulics to any of these hoes from the tractor's loader valve with simple quick disconnect hoses or you can have a separate pump on the hoe itself. The pto pump probably adds $500 to $600 to the price. As to whether, the pto pump has any real benefits, that question was debated at some length in the following thread:

glennmac:

Thanks. I read the entire discussion about backhoes; Woods vs. Kubota vs. Bradco; PTO pumps vs. direct attach; 3ph mounting vs. subframe mounting; hydraulic flow, pressure and capacity; relief, lift, swing valves; triple moves, single moves; rpm, gpm, ad nauseum. I can read a bit of French and my German’s pretty good, can even tease a meaning from a Latin phrase if I have to, but I’m not up on Chinese, which that discussion might as well have been in. Obviously, I have a long road to travel. I’ll need to learn the language and symbols of the road signs.

kelago,

I was where you are a year ago, except I couldn't read the French. You already know the words. Next, you make believe you know what they mean, and after that you give other people advice.

Your decision on a belly mower should help answer your question. If you want a belly mower, you have to go 3ph hoe. Belly mower on 3010 means it will not be fun to take off and on, and you will be limited to turf tires. If you dont care about belly mowers, I would go with a subframe backhoe over the 3ph. If I had the money I would buy the Bradco 408. If saving money is important, I would get the Woods direct attach over the Kubota. Maybe up to $1000 cheaper for an equivalent hoe. Plus you can resell a Woods hoe to anyone; a Kubota hoe's resale potential is limited to Kubota tractors.

If backhoes and belly mowers are important to you, you really should look at the JD 4300 and 4400. Their 48 backhoe is the easiest of all to remove and install, specs out significantly higher than the Kubota 4690 or the Woods 7500, and is completely compatible with a belly mower.

Just some more Chinese to overpopulate your mind.

glennmac:

A belly mower would probably be the last thing I would buy for the tractor. I have a riding mower that suffices and I don't intend on increasing the size of the lawn, (Ich habe genug!). Should I ever do any cutting of the fields, (now done by a local farmer for the hay), I would use a bush hog. Don't need to be pretty, just cut. So, Woods seems to be the way to go... the dealer tells me it's a subframe mount and I like the notion of it being "stronger and safer."

I can say thank you in Turkish, I just can't spell it...

Muchas gracias...
