My L3010 intake warning light started going on when I bring the engine up to 2000 rmp or greater. I blew out the air filter (it was kind of dusty), but the problem stayed, so I then replaced the filter. Still no improvement. Finally I replaced the inner ("safety") element, but still have the same problem. Anyone have any ideas of what else could be wrong? Sensor maybe? I'm pretty much stumped.

Thanks

Could there possibly be a reset for it? I'd check the operators manual for info on the display unit.

No reset. The operator's book is of no help. It advises to do everything that I've already done. (Clean/Change the air filter elements.)

The warning light isn't on constantly, only when I bring the engine speed up past about 2K.

Those restriction sensors are real tempermental, sometimes they stick completely, removing and tapping will sometimes release them, till next time it activates. Other times they just get weak and provide eroneous indications. Try replacing the sensor itself, that should solve the problem.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I was a little suspicous of the sensor. It doesn't seem to stick, but if it is weak, that would explain it tripping under higher RPM.

If my sensor went on the blink, I personnaly would not replace it. With general maintainence, air cleaners, prefilters get a cleaning or replacing. I do the same thing on all my engines none of which have a sensor telling me my air cleaner is restricting air flow into the engine. The sensor is convienant for those who simply do not pay attention to such things. My feeling is also that by the time the vacuum is great enough to activate the sensor, my filter has been dirty or dirtier then I would want it to be for quite some time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You might want to give this a quick read. Still goes on for no reason occasionally. old thread

Hey, Thanks Orb. I did a search, but missed that thread somehow.
I did talk to the dealer last night. Since I have only had the tractor for about a year, and have only put 60 hours on it since then, mine is under warranty, but the same nonsense as yours. Sure, Kubota pays for the part and the labor but not the cost of sending the mechanic out to fix it or for me to haul the tractor back to the dealer. So they are sending me the part, and I'll thread it on myself.

I did take the sensor off, tapped it a few times and put it back on. Now the light comes on at 2500. I figure I do it a few more times and it won't come on until 3000, and I don't rev it that high anyway...

Thanks again for all the help.

Luke

Well, its either replace it or leave the light burning whenever I run the tractor until it is burned out and useless. The tractor has less than 60 hours on it , and I don't live in a dusty climate or grade with the unit. The filter wasn't all that dirty, and the safety filter was like brand new. Both got replaced anyway.

I suppose its a matter of preference. We have a 49 Allis WD that you have to run entirely by feel. That's okay. But if there is a sensor, the engineers probably put it there for a reason. On a new tractor I expect everything that the factory put on it should work as long as I can keep it working.

For what it's worth, the L3130 etc no longer has it. They use the same little vacuum sensor like todays trucks, one mounted to the air cleaner. Perhaps the engineers found the luxury of having a light on the dash tell you when you are past due on cleaning or replacing your filter turned out to have problems like sensors that went bad. The Ford 2120 we had also incorporated this sensor. It went bad, we disconnected it, no light, no problem. I think whatever your comfortable with is great.
