I have an L3010 with 875 hrs. The owners manual says the valves should be adjusted at 800 hours. How important is this to have done if the tractor still runs well? I have no trailer to transport my tractor to a dealer, so this will likely be an expensive adjustment if I need to have it done. How difficult is this to do at home? Any instructions in a past posting. I tried to search the forum, but it wasn't very successful.

It's important. Usually they're getting loose by 800 hours. You don't really hear it, but after adjustment you can tell that the engine does run a little better.

It's not that difficult. Hard part is getting the valve cover off. The fuel tank guard is in the way and needs to be moved to get the valve cover out. It's a metal guard that goes under the tank. Remove the hoses that go through the metal, fight with the bolts in the back, and pull it out of the way. Helps to get the hood off, IMO should be a requirement. I've done it both ways and prefer to take it off as it's pretty easy to do but you need a helper. Preferable a taller one. When I worked at the dealer, it was me and another guy, I'm 6'9" and he was 5'5". Getting him to grab the side of the hood and step over the front axle was kind of funny to watch.

Oh, and if you have a front end loader, take it off. Makes things got a LOT easier. If it's a Kubota loader, it comes off in about 30 seconds if you hurry.

they also can get tighter, esp exhaust, all the more reason to adjust. if the OP has never adjusted valves, i would highly recommend for them to at least have someone with them who has this experience. yes, @ 800 hrs they need adj, but a wrong adjustment could play more havoc with those new valves than letting them be.... only imho & yes, do replace the valve cover gasket upon reassembly.... best of luck
