2006 Kubota L2800
I just got back from my local Kubota dealer. I drove the L2800 and talked $$$$$. I'm having a hard time thinking of spending nearly $20K on a tractor. Here are the numbers: But with financing options its not too bad.
L2800HST w/ FEL LA463, R4 tires- $15776
woods RD72 finish mower - $1890
9" auger/post hole digger - $450
5% state tax - 905.80
GRAND TOTAL of - $19021.80
I have a B2100 I'm probably gonna give up for trade, they said they would give me $7500 for which eases the pain a little. Does this sound like a decent deal to you guys? Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't know where you are (you might fill out your profile so we can spend your money with a litlle more specificity), but look at the Monthly Specials link on the Deen Implement website. They are down near Dallas, and have a L2800HST with FEL offered for $14,720. R4 tires are probably additional $$.

R4 tires are an option. So is a folding ROP's.

I bought an RD72 in October for $1850 here in Illinois. I also bought an L3400 with no loader, block heater, R4's, folding ROPS, and one rear remote port, for $14,200. All the dealers around here were within a few hundred so I went with the closest one who also has a good reputation.

Your prices seem very close to what I paid for my L2800HST and LA463 Loader in September.

Get them to change the 3 point hitch valve before you buy if it still has the old valve on it (search for "lift shudders" under Kubota Owning), particularly if you plan to actually use the 3PH for its intended purpose.

I still do not have my valve replaced (although the dealer now has the part and is waiting for me), but the original valve goes up in 1 inch increments. That means that the end of a 5' mower goes up about six inches at a time, and shakes the whole tractor. It also means you can't feather the mower deck up a little bit. The new valve should work smoothly up and down, with complete feathering control.

Have them hang a mower on the back and demonstrate how the lift works, then have them show you the same thing on a Grand-L. Kubota will replace the valve for free (unless they are shipping new ones with the new valve already installed).

Note: Your dealer may deny all knowledge of a replacement valve. Insist that he call the service rep anyway. The rep in Atlanta said "change it" to my dealer.

Except for the valve, I absolutely love my L2800.

I'm waiting for my L3400 to be delivered. Price comparisons will make no sense with me as I am in Canada and our prices are higher here after conversion.

You may want to look into what the price difference would work out to be for a L3400 instead of an L2800. Other than the power output they are basically the same machine I'm told. The difference in $ may not be enough to pass up on more HP as the added HP will always hold its resale value.

I'll second what the canoe guy said. If you're going to spend the money, look hard at the L3400 before you jump. HST does consume power and the extra ponies and torque of the L3400's larger engine will be welcome at times. No matter what the job the L3400 will do it easier with less strain.

The two machines are the same size and within 100 lbs. of each other. In any given frame size, it makes sense to get the largest engine offered...it just adds to the utility of the machine.

Hate to see you spend all that money and then have power issues. Seem to recall that most L2800/L3400 quotes posted here were within $1000 of each other.

Thanks for all of the info. I live in Northern VA. I have 10 acres to take care of (mow, fencing, gravel drive etc). I asked about the L3400 and is $1000 more which doesn't seem too unreasonable but at $19K already I'm starting to get shaky in the knees. I asked about the 3pt lift valve and the sales guy didn't know what I was talking about. I'm gonna print this out and talk to him again tomorrow. Thanks again for all the helpful info!!!!!

Just remember, it is something you will probably keep for a very long time and you want to be super happy with it, even if you have to spend a little extra up front. That being said I was just looking at a L 3130 HST here with 723 loader and 60" rotary cutter for 20,000.00 So you might do some more haggling or look around a little more....

Solo - Get the L3400! I realize that you've got to stop somewhere but you will get the extra $1000 back at resale time IMHO even if that is a decade from now.

I would have loved to go to the Grand L series for some of the bells and whistles and the extra loader lift ability but I didn't actualy *need* any of the extras and like you I had to stop somewhere. The L3400 is a much better place to stop than the L2800.

You won't regret the HP.

What dealer's have you talked with. You aren't too far from me. I would suggest giving Justin a call at Antietam Tractor in Hagerstown, MD. He will usually give you a straight up good price right up front and you could use that as possible leverage. You could also check with Frederick Equipment as I hear they are pretty good.

Good luck.
