Is it a huge issue to replace a clutch in the L2600? Can a mechanically inclined person accomplish this feat? I had a dealer tell me to get a hydro tranny over the standard because it could cost over $1000 to have someone replace a clutch. How long(hrs.) should I expect the clutch to last if I refrain from riding it as much as possible?

I suggest getting a professional to do it. I just had the clutch replaced on my L35 and took 3 days. The guy told me it was metal on metal /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The main thing about replacing a clutch is splitting the tractor to get at it. The L2600 is pretty straight forward, the L35TL that chechnya spoke about has a lot of non quick disconnect stuff (loader, 4 post canopy) to remove first and that takes time. The L2600 shouldn't be too bad if you have room to get it in and be able to roll it apart to get to the clutch. Hope this helps.

Cost of clutch replacement should not be a decideing factor in determining which type of transmission you want. I would think the straight gear models are far less expensive to repair than a hydro unit.

It's difficult to "ride" the clutch as you might in a car/truck. The gearing is so low that you just let out the clutch and off you go. It's almost hard to stall it out.

I specifically bought a gear tractor because I like the simplicity of it. If I don't "ride" the clutch, it should last indefinitely. I sold both of my last rucks with 126,000 and 114,000 miles. Both had the original clutch.

Go test drive em' and see which one you like (and can afford!)

It is not an issue. You will, in any kind of normal usage, never wear the clutch out. It is not a fragile part.

Most people do buy hydros, but isn't for durability or repair cost reasons.

I have several reasons for getting the non-hydro unit. Price, availability, and the fact that I have already jumped from trying to find an inexpensive used tractor to a new one. I could just keep moving up in price until I get all the bells and whistles but I can't justify the expensive right now. I think the L2600 will fit what I need it to do and if in the future when there aren't so many things going on maybe I will have to trade up. Thanks.
