After reading some good threads here....sounds like I would be OK to just fasten a 1 7/8 ball directly into my drawbar to pull my 5x8 utility trailer around my property to haul brush....nothing really heavy. My L2501 Owner's Manual says, "When towing an implement, recommend use of "B" hole in drawbar."

Hole A would be easier to use.....sticks out farther.....but if Kubota recommends Hole B......what is Hole A for, anyway?

Any advice is appreciated....I'm only half handy.

A or B will both work. Theoretically, closer to the axle is more stable. Practically, 2" will not make any difference.

On the outboard end of the center drawbar, the holes are different diameters.

However, before long you will want to drag trees and other stuff with chains.

For that, where elevating tree butts is important to prevent butts from stopping at a rock, or other obstruction, upending the tractor, an A-frame, cross-drawbar hitch is better. I use a Handi Hitch. (I once got a JD 750 vertical, pulling a tree trunk from center-drawbar.)

Note: 20"/26" widths.

Thanks, Jeff: you're right about wanting to drag trees / logs with chains. What I failed to mention is that I have a Land Pride Quick Hitch installed.....and would like to leave it in place when I tow/ drag stuff.

I bought a Tractor Supply 26 inch 'horizontal' draw bar that fits the Quick Hitch OK....now I'm trying to figure out how to keep it from rotating....maybe that is not important when wrapping a logging chain around it raising it up a little to drag stuff.

The nomenclature which will be understood here is cross-drawbar. The other is a center-drawbar.

Get a galvanized clevis shackle to affix to your cross-drawbar. It will allow the chain to self-adjust to load. You are going to TSC for the cross-drawbar lock, anyhow.

Search Results for pin clevis at Tractor Supply Co.

I suggest Grade 70, 1/4" chain, with a Grade 70 slip hook at one end and a Grade 70 grab hook at t'other. One 8' length and one 12' length. Walmart is the cheap source for 20' Grade 70 chain-in-a box. But for two Grade 70 slip hooks you will have to buy at Tractor Supply Company.

I have one of Ken's bolt on chain grab hooks on my cross drawbar, which at times is convenient.

Ken's Bolt on Grab Hooks <<Home>>

1/4" chain is 100% secure in one of Ken's 5/16" bolt on grab hooks.

The TSC cross-drawbar Lock sure does not look like it will fit a cross-drawbar mounted on a LandPride Quick Hitch [/I. I asked the store manager to order me one - none in stock - so I'll bring it home and see next week...It does not look long enough to reach around the QuickHitch ....

Has anyone here fit a TSC cross-drawbar lock onto a LandPride Quick hitch? Any other 'off-the-shelf' solutions available to keep a cross-drawbar from spinning on a QuickHitch?? I'm only half handy.

Be careful if you use a cross drawbar (on the lower 3 pt links), for pulling a trailer. The 3 pt. does not have downforce; it only lifts things, so there's nothing to keep the tongue of the trailer from lifting except gravity. It could be unsafe if the load on the trailer is not balanced right or if something goes haywire while moving. We've used a setup that secures the 3 pt mounted drawbar from lifting with a chain secured to the fixed drawbar, as shown.

P.S. The top-link attachment keeps the drawbar from spinning without the TSC drawbar lock. We got this from a small supplier years ago that I don't think is still in business, but I've since seen similar setups available on the net.

A number of tractors have jacknifed & rolled because of this. Stop suddenly, bounce wrong, turn sharp, or even just going downhill & the 3pt lifts up & puts your center of gravity way to high. The chain to the drawbar should prevent that though.

Personally I have a 3pt trailer mover I use with no safety hold down. I'm only moving trailers around on my flattish property at 5mph tops though & am aware of the potential issues. Half the time the trailer mover ends up on my SSQA to 3pt adapter on my loader actually. Better maneuverability when backing, worse balance & visibility of the hitch, no 3pt lift problems.
