L2501 and quick hitch question

I have a new l2501 and also got a land pride 1260 mower at same time. Dealer brought it out with mower attached. I removed the mower and now thinking of using a quick hitch. I have a harbor freight quick hitch new in box that i never used on my other tractor. I know about replacing the top hook on the harbor hitch. But my question is by going to quick hitch will the pto shaft still fit. I am new at this and dont want to have to cut anything . Help needed please

You don't need to cut the driveline. You should have enough driveline to take up the extra 3" or so the hitch will add to the distance between the tractor and mower. The driveshaft should be at least 2" in the tube when the hitch is lifted to full height.

At the least, you shouldn't have to cut the pto shaft. Adding the quick hitch would require the shaft to be longer, not shorter. The question is, is there enough shaft length left in your current pto shaft when you add the extra "length" of the quick hitch?

I've got a l3901 with a speeco quick hitch and rc1260 behind it, other than adding bushings no changes were needed. I would assume the l2501 is similar enough to expect the same for you.

1260 comes QH compatible so it will hook right up

I have an L2501, the HF quick hitch, and a 5' Brush Hog that was left on my property when we bought it. No go with the quick hitch - it adds 4" and the shaft falls out. Not all the time, not every time, but I only use it about twice a year and it's easier just to take off the quick hitch for the day and know that the connection is solid.

Just to point out the obvious,

Whether or not an attachment (in this case a mower) is "Quick Hitch compatible", really has nothing at all to do with how long the pto shaft is, and vice versa.

It's referring to the pin and hook dimensions on how it connects to the hitch. Nothing really to do with the length of the pto shaft.

If the shaft has never been cut, it should be (maybe) fine. But each attachment needs to be checked, and shaft measured, the first time you try it.

After that, no biggie.

Hook it all up. No need to engage the pto until all the length testing is done. Mark the pto shaft with a marker at the point there the inner and outer tubes telescope over each other. Run the deck up and down, tilt the top link all the way in and out if your using a hydraulic top link. If its a manual top link then set it where your going to use it. Check your mark at each step. If your have at enough over lap then your should be good to go. The amount of overlap needed you could probably find in the pto shaft specs. A couple inches minimum of pto tube overlap, as pointed out above, might be just fine for the horsepower and use your indicating.

Take the QH back and get a set of pats , I did just that and am very happy , I change implements 4 or 5 times every weekend at my farm and it takes minutes,

There is absolutely NO WAY you can state that, he will have attach everything and measure for himself to be 100% sure. Getting it wrong can cost lots of many and leave a damaged tractor.
