Kubota L-2500DT (2000)
Has anyone installed a larger alternator on a Kubota L2500? If so, what did you use? If not, is there a sourse for the physical dimensions and specifications of small/high output alternators such as Denso, Mitsubishi, etc? I am installing additional lights, maybe a cab, and want to increase from the 30 amps available to 45 amps to 60 amps. Thanks, willyC93

Sorry I cant help with your question but I have a question for you. How did you find what your alternator output was ? I have a L3010DT and have looked in my manuals and on the net for specs and other places but couldn't find the answer. Thanks.

Alternators are pretty standard--there's only a few ways they mount (single foot, double foot, etc). West Marine carries a bunch for people who want to boost the charging capacity on their boats. Here's an article that might be helpful: The West Advisor: Alternators

West carries a bunch of HO alternators, but they're all Balmar and pretty spendy (like most things nautical:D). Another alternative would be to change the pulley size to make your alternator spin faster, since their output is proportional to the shaft RPM.

If you decide that additional lighting is really your goal, consider using LED lights that use a fraction of the current used by other technologies. LED is higher cost compared to halogen, etc but likely lower cost when compared to halogen + replacement alternator.

I would also suggest LED lighting.

I would also see if there is an alternator shop in your area. They may be able to rebuild your current one with a higher output. Or at least be able to advise on a source for a higher output unit.

The guy who suggested a marine alternator hasn't looked under the hood of a 2500. What you need is a same mechanical size and mounting with twice the output power. So do I by the way. If you find one let me know. I need one and I'm not even adding lights.

I am trying a solid state regulator. It exactly replaces the mechanical one and is not subject to vibration and corrosion. It's a cheap improvement on the L2550 and others.

Do you know the manufacture and p/n of your current alternator?

Denso痴 website has listings for Kubota products, but it doesn稚 provide physical size info. It does list which P/N痴 are above 40 amps. Perhaps if you contacted them (or the appropriate manufacturer) they would provide some help.

I took my alt. to a shop a few years back to have it rebuilt, the repairman asked me why I wanted to rebuild it when I could get a new one for around 85.00. He ordered it and it was a carbon copy of the old in every form. It was designated to gon on a 4cyl toyota car, it's been singing along for 5 yrs now with the same output.
