My L245DT started blowing oil out of the crankcase vent tube.It was already blowing hydraulic oil out around the shifters.I suspect the hydraulic vent is stopped up, but could this cause the hydraulic oil to get in the crankcase? When I checked the oil it was way too full and thin.Has anybody else had this problem?

First, isolate where the extra oil is coming from. classically, if you have a tractor making oil in a sump.. you will than have at least one other sump that is low. Once you determine where the oil is coming from, then you can decide why ( seals, hoses, hardlines.. etc.. )

I've seen hyd pumps with bad shaft seals that will pump hyd oil into the crankcase.. etc..

Could it be from a faulty/leaky fuel injector?

Thanks, I'll try that first. It's blown oil around the shifters before, and it was a stopped up vent. It's never gotton in the oil before. I was working it pretty hard at the time, if this is the problem , I wonder if I'll have to replace my hydraulic pump seal?I don't think it's diesel in the oil.If it was an injector problem, wouldn't it make it run bad?

I've seen injection pumps bleed fuel into the oil, yet run fine.. so -DO- verify where the extra fluid is coming from.. -BEFORE_ thinking of how to fix it.

Thanks, I'll do that.If it is the injection pump, would I have to get a rebuilt one? According to the IT shop manual I just got, the average person can't work on these pumps.

First check all your other fluid levels including coolant. If they are all ok I would highly suspect the injection pump or (not familiar with your exact engine) fuel lift pump.

Clean your hands and then place some of the engine oil on your fingers. Do you smell diesel fuel? You might, you might not. If you do, DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE, YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR BEARING'S. If you don't smell diesel fuel you should send out a oil sample for oil analysis and see if fuel is present.

No, injection pumps are not rebuildable by the average person. You should find a local injection pump rebuilder (check the phone book). It's usually cheaper to have a injection pump shop rebuild it than it is to buy a recon pump.

Depending on your engine you may also find that even removing and reinstalling the injection requires special tooling. Check your repair manual and see if any special gauges or alignment tools are required before you disable it at your home. Injection pumps often require being timed when they are installed. If not timed properly it will either run very poorly or overfuel the engine and burn a piston crown.

Where are you located? I may be able to find a pump shop for you if I know where you are located.

Once again, if you do find diesel fuel in your engine oil DO NOT RUN IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO REBUILD THE ENGINE OR BUY A NEW ONE.
