Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to get the injection pump off of my ZD21? The pump will come lose, but will not come out. The ZD28 has a plate on the block that you can get a pry tool in allowing the pump to be removed, but the ZD21 does not have that.

Thank you.....Shawn

I would never recommend a pry tool to remove an injection pump. I can't speak to your particular machine, but as a rule most pumps of this style don't always just lift straight out. Most require the stop solenoid to be removed first(in case you haven't done this), and the pump to be tipped slightly to access and remove the governor link. I think I've also had to remove the mounting studs once to gain enough lateral movement to slip the pump out.

Thank you for your response. I wasn't talking about prying on the pump. I was referring to the access plate on the ZD28 and using a tool to disconnect what I suspect is the governor link you referred to. Yes the stop solenoid has been removed as you said.
The machine is at my mechanics shop so I am not actually doing the work, but he has explained what he done so far. He has been able to find info on the web about the ZD28 but not the 21. The ZD28 has the plate to allow the disconnect of the governor but the 21 dose not.
He has been able to get it to come partially out but not all of the way.

I don't believe that you need to remove the springs. The rack pin needs to align with the slot on the edge of the rectangle hole the injection pump sets in. Move the throttle linkage to accomplish that. The arrow in the picture shows the pin I am referring to. Also the injection pump will have tilted towards you or away from you due to the injection pump rollers sliding to one side of the fuel cam when initially trying to remove the pump. Move the pump so that you can pull it straight out from the cavity.
