Kubota ZD1211 vs John Deere 757

I just bought a Kubota ZD1211-72 SD. I broke it in on some land I just purchased and my first impression was pure amazement as it plowed through 2' to 4' tall grass.

When I finished the field I still wanted to play with my new toy so I took it to mow my "lawn". My 2nd impression was, "WOW, that is not great". So I hopped on the old JD 757 and it brought it back to looking good again.

Looking through this forum (and others) it seems the lift problem is widespread. I'm seeing a remedy of changing blades to a Gator blade. The only part# I've seen is from the rear discharge boys. Does anyone know the part # for a side discharge?

I've got a ZD1011-54, fantastic machine, the OEM blades aren't great but, I haven't had to put the rotary cutter on the tractor since I bought it. I have a set of Oregon Gator blades for mine that I haven't put on yet, the first set I ordered had a center hole that was too small. Theses have an 11/16 center hole. I'd suggest contacting Oregon to get the correct part number for your machine.

On a nice weed free manicured lawn it cuts it nice it just leaves it looking funny. Not really much striping and just looks messy. I go back over with my scag and it’s night and day difference. I’m going to try blades, I contacted Oregon. Just not happy with how it leaves a nice lawn. In thick weedy grass I can’t complain though.

So I typed in the oem blade number for 72” s/d which is k5698-34340 on Oregon site. Here’s what came up

Photo won’t load on here but it came up with Oregon
92-116. Which has most lift at 1 3/16”
91-493 7/8” lift
The rest are gator blades (3 options) It says they are all for pro decks but have same dimensions as new factory ones I have in my hand

You prob need to clean out that deck after cutting the tall stuff. The deck seems to collect a lot when in deep grass. I have cleaned mine several times and makes a huge difference in cut quality when cleaned out. It's frustrating to say the least. My old 331 never needed to be scrapped down like the new one does. It does cut great though.

Keep your blades sharp and the deck clean. Cutting long grass plugs the deck up quicker. Wet grass plugs things up more too.

Sorry I left this high and dry. Life got hectic after my last post.

The tall grass I cut was very dry and didn't build up in my deck at all. I noticed the poor quality cut on my 2nd try with the machine so the blades were still "factory" sharp.

I purchased the 92-116 blades but the hole diameter was to small. I called a couple machine shops to try and have the hole enlarged to 1 5/16" but had no luck (they claimed liability reasons). I hope to figure something out this upcoming season.
