The openings under the dash of a Kubota X1120D, between the underhood compartment and the cab, draft cold air. I saw on the installation manual for a heater kit there is a barrier that comes with the heater that is installed about 1 1/2" behind the radiator shroud. I assume it seals off the cold air draft and allows the heater to do its job. It appears to be two or three pieces of sheet metal, correctly cut to fit around wires and other components, joined with sheet metal screws and surrounded by a rubber seal. It is held in place when the hood is closed, at least that's my interpretation. The barrier by itself is about $200. If the whole heater kit is purchased, the barrier is included and the price of the kit is about $625. So, I think the whole kit is the way to go.
Before I purchase the whole heater kit, I would like to try sealing off the underhood compartment from the cab to see how the cab would feel without the drafts. Maybe a heater isn't needed. Has anyone sealed the openings I'm referring to, and how did you do it? Is there an aftermarket barrier available? Any suggestions or ideas? Has anyone bought the heater kit, and how difficult was it to install? Did the barrier that is included in the kit seal off the cold air draft?
Thanks.
