My L4600 was delivered last Thursday. I have been waiting for the rain to stop so I can run it over the road I built on the place with the grader. Question I have is some of the road on the place has 2 inch rock as a base. The rest of the roads have gravel.......will there be a big difference in set up of the 3 point for using the LP grader on these roads? I spread most of the two inch with the blade of a 1953 D4 Cat. That doesn't provide for a crown of the road.

Thanks

I use Kubota L3650 with a rear scraper blade. I have found it very easy to over do crowning a driveway. After establishing a crown, I found I needed to flatten the center of the driveway. The crown can be established by tilting the blade is the early passes. Just remember the grader blade is tipped in relation the tractor, so as the tractor is run on the slope the angle of the blade to the ground increases.

OK I understand. The GS -1572 is a box configuration and has the scarifier shanks. I was wondering if the shanks will pull up too much of the two inch base material in addition to leveling the crown. The 2 inch is about 4 inches thick. On some parts I have been able to spread gravel on top and this is lasting well. Looks like I'm going to just put it on a section that will be a test. I don't think the L4600 will have any difficulty pulling this device.

Thanks appreciate it.

I don't think you want to rip up that 2" road base especially if it is packed. You will have loose rocks everywhere and then you will need to repack them. If the 2" rock is already loose your grader will probably level it but it might be a ruff ride. You shouldn't need the scarifiers if it is loose. Usually the crown is put on the surface material not the base. I would try first w/o the scarifiers on any road. I would only drop the scarifiers if it didn't cut. Never drop them so far that the base gets ripped up or you will have a mess to fix.
The gravel roads should be a dream to do with your new setup.

Good counsel. Waiting for the ground to freeze so I can do a test run. I bought the mower as well and that will be under cover till spring. I hear there is an auger that bolts on to the bucket for drilling post holes with some down pressure.

Thanks

I grade over a mile of road and big rocks (2"+) are a PITA!

Grade your gravel on top, but do not pull up any base rock.

Our drive is mostly steep and it's hard to keep the smaller gravel on the road, but we manage.

The L4600 will do fine!

I think you might be better off grading the road before the ground freezes. After dirt freezes, the dirt clumps will be hard to level.

I have one 1/4 mile section of road that I need to have access on. I agree it might be better to wait till spring but I will have to try on this piece. It's pretty rough and I need it get feed to the cattle.

Thanks

You can get a down pressure kit for a 3pt auger, hydraulic driven or PTO driven. You do not have to have the hydraulic bucket mounted auger to be able to have down pressure. ;)

I grade about 1/2 mile and it's like want Don said (I grade over a mile of road and big rocks (2"+) are a PITA! Our drive is mostly steep and it's hard to keep the smaller gravel on the road, but we manage.)
What I do now I mix 1 loader bucket full of red clay and 2 bucket of small gravel/sand mix. It holds the gravel in place and smooth as blacktop. Doesn't wash out as easy. I like to put it on about 2 to 3" and man it's easy to level.

That's a good way to do it. I have clay but it's so mixed in with rock with just small layers it won't work for me. I'm hoping when I put a layer of road gravel over the two inch base rock that it will level.

Thanks

I have a shaker that I use to get the big rocks out of the clay and river rock. The clay I stock pile and wait until its good and dry, then the clay comes loose from the rock. It's alot of work, but sure is nice to work with.
