Last winter I drove the grasshopper lawnmower with this engine into the garage. No problem.
This spring it wouldn't start. Would turn over, but not catch. Changed plugs. started. Twice.
Then wouldn't start. Took to the dealer. He did general maintenance, started it a bunch of times.
Picked up. Unloaded at this end. Wouldn't start.
I don't see a spark at all, and I can smell gas in the exhaust pipe.
This engine has a coil with 3 wires on it.
1 wire goes from the +12 terminal on the coil to the (I think) the start switch. (following wires through bulkheads...) I think it has 12 v on it when the switch is in the on position.
1 wire goes from the +12v terminal to the distributor. Another wire comes back from the distributor to the ground terminal of the coil
Now, if I'm right, there should be 12 v on the the + terminal on the coil whenever the switch is in the start position, yes? There isn't.
What's my next step?
